Pickens Sportsman Club
Plans were made at the April
meeting of the Pickens County
Sportsman Club for the immediate
purchase of a considerable number
of bred doe deer. These will be
delivered to the county at an early
date and will be released in the
10,000 protected area which is in
the northeastern part of Pickens
County and the northwestern part of
Dawson County.
In addition to the deer, a number
of turkeys will be released in vari
ous locations in the county. One
hundred pheasant chicks are being
purchased and will be cared for the
necessary eight weeks by members
of the club. They will be released in
the western part of the county at the
proper time.
Ball Ground suffered a terrible
loss last Saturday afternoon when
the two-story brick Ford Building,
the Wheeler Dry Cleaning Plant and
the Beauty Shoppe, operated by
Mrs. Hubert Watkins, were burned.
The buildings were all located on
the North side of Main Street. The
Ford Building was owned by Mr.
Charles Ingram, Ford dealer. The
fire started upstairs when an oil
heater exploded and quickly spread
to the dry cleaning plant of Mr. Bob
Wheeler which with the building
owned by Mrs. Bob Barrett were
destroyed.
The annual Pickens High senior
class play will be given Friday
evening at 8:00 o’clock in the audi
torium. The play is “For Pete’s
Sake,” a three act comedy and the
characters are played by: Alvie
Cochran, Pauline Whitfield, Ruth
Denson, Clyde Parker, David Hob
son, Clyde Brock, Maxine West
brook, Betty Wood, Betty Wheeler,
Helen Hobson, Denver Griffin and
Barney Coleman.
Admission 150 and 250.
Mr. W.C. Wood has opened
“Wood’s Store” in Ludville. The
stock will include Groceries, Feed,
Hardware and Soft Drinks and
Moore’s ice cream. Patent medi
cines and household necessities.
Mr. Wood, a licensed pharmacist
for twenty six years, will fill pre
scriptions after 7:00 p.m. and
Wednesday afternoon and Sundays.
(Ad) Moore Hardware Co. - The
Coal supply will be short again this
year. Place orders now for delivery.
Fall terms on payment can be
arranged.
(Ad) Lawson Motor Co. -
Reward for the oldest Chevrolet
truck in service today. The Chevro
let Motor Division is searching for
the oldest licensed truck in service
today in the United States and will
present to the owner any standard
model Chevrolet truck he may
desire.

week-end with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Carter Stanfield.
Mr. Claud Neal returned Wednes
day to his home in Orangeburg, S.C.
after a two weeks visit with is par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Luther Neal.
