Happy Ramblers
Sue and Carolyn said for their
Happy Rambler birthday things
they wanted to go to the Biltmore
House! Now how about that?
Monday morning April 12 it was
rainy and overcast; however,
Deanna, Diane, Carolyn, Peggy,
Nancy, Kay, Sue and me left out
for Asheville. Deanna had picked
up the 15-passenger van and so we
had plenty of room for moving
about. Our route took us up to
Hiawassee, over to Hayesville and
route #68 across that big mountain
into Franklin and on to Dillsboro.
The drive was beautiful! The sun
would occasionally peak out and
the dogwood, redbud and many
other trees, shrubs and flowers
were blooming, so everywhere
you looked there was beauty to
behold. We made good time and,
as I have said so many times, if we
had no destination in mind we
enjoy being together so much that
it is fun.
We got our tickets at 3 to the
Biltmore House and that way we
got to go back in on Tuesday. We
parked in the lot and walked a
short trail to the House and, for
those who have been, you remem
ber how pretty everything there is
and to those who haven’t been go
on the Internet and you can see
many, many lovely views. We
toured through about 30 rooms on
Monday and then went out to the
Winery.
We had adjoining rooms at
Days Inn for only $44 per room
and took our sandwich stuff down
to their dining space, made ham,
turkey, cheese, lettuce, tomato
sandwiches, had chips and pickles
and a bowl of
fruit salad and a bunch of fun eat
ing there! We played cards until
about 1 and called it a night, but
those Sutton Sisters could have
played all night! Next morning
there had breakfast there at Days
Inn and then when we all got our
stuff together and ready for the
day. We went to Waffle House
(Deanna’s favorite place) for the
second shot at breakfast. Then it
was back to the Biltmore House to
complete our tour. We all enjoyed
the entire estate there and we did
get to every part of it! It is a won
derful place to visit and especially
when you are with a fun group of
gals like we were with!
We had lunch at the Deer Park
Restaurant. It was wonderful, very
elegant and the food was so, so
good. We ate from the buffet and
had a great little waitress attending
us. There was very elegant sound
ing names to all the dishes, but it
was ham & bean soup, tomato
soup, fresh spinach salad with a
chef making a dressing for it
standing there, other pasta, potato,
etc. salads, snow peas, pearl
onions & carrots steamed together
for a veggie, pork roast, chicken in
a wonderful sauce w/small flaky
rolls on top and best of all a toma
to, Vidalia onion, cheesey thing,
like I said, they all had those
“rich” sounding names. The
deserts were the “to die for” kind
and we tried to sample them all.
Home again by the scenic route
through Maggie Valley and the
Gorge and I guess this should just
about complete our
sojourn arrived in Jasper and it
was raining with snow mixed in
with it!
