Major prizes announced for May 6
Good Samaritan Golf Tournament
By Doug Brooks
The committee of the 2nd Annu
al Good Samaritan Health and
Wellness Center Golf Tournament
is pleased to announce that there
will be a $10,000 prize given to the
player making a hole-in-one on
hole #7 at the tournament at the
Bent Tree Golf Club May 6.
Lexington Insulators of Jasper is
sponsoring the hole-in-one award
and other special prizes this year.
Awards of His & Her Bulova
watches for a hole-in-one on any
par 3 hole and awards also for clos-
est-to-the-pin on all par 3s and for
the longest drive on #18 and all par
ticipants will receive sleeves of
balls. There will be a putting and
chipping contest and other prizes
will be available.
Lexington Insulators is the
world’s largest manufacturer of
molded rubber insulators for auto
motive ignition systems and pro
duces and ships more than a million
parts each day for both new car
manufacturers and auto parts stores
such as NAPA and AutoZone. They
employ more than 270 people on
three shifts and is Pickens County’s
largest private employer.
Their business has grown signif
icantly in recent years despite
heavy competitive pressure from
both domestic and foreign manufac
turers.
According to Mike Harper, pres
ident of Lexington, “Our success
has come largely from a steady
flow of process improvements and
labor productivity gains, based on
our continued investment in
automation and process technology.
A very positive influence on our
success comes from our core strate
gy of teamwork and the commit
ment and involvement of our
employees make it work for all of
us.”
“We also accept our responsibili
ty for a clean and healthy environ
ment by obtaining ISO 14001 regis
tration. Such registration certifies
that we have systems and proce
dures in place to safeguard the envi
ronment by preventing pollution of
ground and water and by reducing
the amount of waste that we send to
landfills. We consider this obliga
tion as important as our commercial
objectives.”
Joe Fore and Pat Harmeyer are
co-chairs of the Tournament Com
mittee again this year that also
includes Lydia Decker, Vicki Wil
son, Deedie Padgett, Nancy Bickley
and Doug Brooks. Committee
members are continuing to seek
additional sponsors and individuals
to participate in the tournament.
