Farmers Market opens with best turnout ever
What a spectacular turnout we
had for the first market of the 2004
season! With over 30 vendors on
hand, the droves of shoppers had
plenty of plants, crafts, vegetables,
and other homemade goodies to
choose from. A beautiful day was
made even better by the wonderful
music provided by Don and Dar
lene Lodge. The bright spring sun
shone down on the Park & Ride lot
as folks poured in to check out the
first offerings of the season.
Many new vendors were at the
market, with items ranging from
fresh eggs to honey to outdoor fur
niture and onions. Early season
greens were quick to go, and those
wishing to get started on their own
vegetable gardens snapped up
tomato plants as fast as vendors
could unload them from their
trucks. Great home baked goods
such as fried pies and cake by the
slice were also quickly going from
tables straight into shoppers’
mouths as they strolled through the
market. Fresh eggs, honey, jams,
jellies, bread, salsa, and other tasty
treats are sure to continue to be in
great supply as the season contin
ues.
There was a plentiful supply of
shrubs, trees, perennials, herbs,
annuals, vegetable plants, and
native plants on hand. It seemed
nearly everyone who entered the
market left with at least one treas
ure to take home for their land
scape, and many were seen taking
hanging baskets and other plants to
their vehicle by the wagonload. If
you came looking for locally made
arts and crafts you surely weren’t
disappointed either. Stunning hand
made wooden jewelry boxes, eye
catching whirligigs, delightful
