The awards ceremony for the
Sassafras Literary Exchange Cre
ative Writing Contest for Youth
will be held Tuesday evening,
April 27 at 7 in the auditorium at
Pickens High.
This annual contest is offered
to give opportunity and to chal
lenge the youth of Pickens Coun
ty in the intellectual pursuit of
writing. Writing is not only an art
and a craft, but is a way in which
people can share ideas, concerns,
hopes and emotions. Contrary to
what some think, the multi-media
world we live in demands more
and better writing skills than ever
before.
This year’s winners should be
justly proud of their accomplish
ments and so should their parents
and teachers. The upcoming
award ceremony would be a good
opportunity for members of the
community to come out and show
their support for these young who
put forth much effort in their liter
ary effort. The pubic is invited.

50 supporters in attendance and
approximately $1300 in donations
made at the meeting alone, Millsap
says, “I am humbled by the over
whelming grassroots support from
the community.”
In his address to the group, Mill
sap stated “One of the reasons I’m
running for Sheriff is I love Pickens
County and I intend to live here for
the rest of my life. Therefore, I
want a Sheriff’s Department that is
proactive and ethical, and one that
the citizens of Pickens County will
respect and be proud of.”
During the meeting, the cam
paign treasury report was read and
then Millsap reported on the accom
plishments of the campaign. Also,
supporters were given copies of
campaigning guidelines.
According to Millsap, “We felt a
need to develop campaigning guide
lines because I want the campaign to
remain positive, and for the focus to
be on the issues and facts. We are
encouraging volunteers to take the
high road in all that they do.”
