Jasper Middle School band’s solo
and ensemble superior success
The JMS Band program, under
the direction of Mr. Jamie Smith,
attended the 9th District Solo and
Ensemble Performance Evaluation
on April 7 at Woodstock Middle
School. The Solo and Ensemble
program, sponsored by the Georgia
Music Educators Association, is an
evaluation procedure of musical
performance for individual stu
dents, small ensembles and teach
ers.
There were 22 7th and 8th grade
students representing Jasper Middle
School. Students can choose to play
a solo as an individual or as part of
a small ensemble. The school had
15 different solos and ensembles
that were performed and all 15
received superior ratings. Superior
ratings are the highest ratings that
can be achieved.
The solo participants were: 7th
grade - Melissa Pinnell; 8th graders
- Kyle Bruce, Junior Chapman, Jeff
Darwin and Thomas Turcotte. The
7th grade ensemble participants
were: Tilly Benson, Andy Bishop,
Katy Chastain, Adam Curtis, Crys
tal Fohner, Tyler Johnson, Fallon

“In your local Sears Store ad
today dated 4/21 - 4/24, the fea
tured washer on the cover, 24872,
is incorrectly priced at $279.88.
That price is the correct price for
the accompanying matching
dryer, 64632. The correct price
for the 24872 washer and the
price we will honor is $399.88.
Also in the same ad on page 3 the
27770 tractor is shown with a
bagger unit attached. The bagger
is available for an additional
charge and is not included in the
tractor’s price. We apologize for
any inconvenience this may
have caused.”

Last Saturday interested local residents attended the first of
three planned Adopt-a-Stream workshops given by the Upper
Etowah River Alliance in Jasper. The purpose of the program is
teaching volunteers how they can monitor and improve the quality
of streams. The training teaches participants how to evaluate the
health of a stream, who to call for problems, chemical testing of
water, aquatic insect identification, and more. The workshop
included a hands-on activity where the “students’’ waded the
stream that crosses through Lee Newton Park in Jasper. Pictured
are (l-r) Janet Jordan, Upper Etowah Watershed Director Robin
Dake, Jean Tyson, Lori Smith, Abi Miner, and Adopt-a-stream
instructor Duncan Cottrell. There will be a more in-depth work
shop on how to take samples coming May 1. To register, call Dun
can Cottrell at (770) 735-2778.
