Wildwood
Christian Academy
forms Chess Club
Tuesday afternoons are a busy
time at Wildwood Christian Acade
my. Under the direction of Paul
Castell, father of two Wildwood
students, a chess club meets from 3
p.m.-4 p.m. each Tuesday.
Students from Tate Elementary
as well as home-schooled students
join students from Wildwood
Christian Academy in learning the
fundamentals of chess and in com
peting with each other over the
chess boards.
Paul’s son, Louis Castell, placed
second in the state for his age
group at the 2003 Georgia Nation
als, held at Georgia Tech. Over 300
students entered the competition,
and Louis competed against 30 of
them.
“Chess helps students develop
self-confidence and analytical
skills. It also teaches them to work
individually and as a group,” said
Mr. Castell, who volunteers his
time to teach the children.
Alexis Cook, Chad Walker, Colin Burris, Louis Castell, Brad Geisen, and T.J. Orr receive instruc
tion from Paul Castell on the fundamentals of chess.
