rabies is an ever constant threat to
ourselves and our pets. Each year
the number of rabies cases reported

are constantly exposed to this dead
ly virus. Only through proper vacci
nation routines can we protect our
pets as well as ourselves against
rabies.
Due to the fact that there are
seven times more incidents of rabies
in cats than in dogs, cats are also
required to be vaccinated against
rabies in Georgia.
Please mark this date on your
calendar and watch for future arti
cles in the paper giving more infor
mation on rabies and the Rabies
Clinic.
The Center for Southern Litera
ture will launch Patti Callahan
Henry's debut novel. Losing the
Moon at the Margaret Mitchell
House and Museum on May 6, with
a reception and author's talk.
The event inaugurates the Cen
ter's new Emerging Writers Series,
a program designed to introduce
"new names in the literary field."
According to the event brochure,
"Henry draws upon her Irish her
itage and preacher father's story
telling to weave honest stories of
women's lives."
Area residents are invited to
attend the Center for Southern Lit
erature launch in Atlanta on May 6,
or to meet Henry during local activ
ities scheduled for Saturday, May
8.
The author will sign her book at
Bears Oh, My in Wolfscratch Vil
lage from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30
p.m. and Cotton Blossom at the
Foothills Shopping Center from 2-4
p.m.
The Foothills Shopping Center
is located on Hwy 53 and Steve
Tate Road in Marble Hill.
Henry writes Lowcountry, main
stream women's fiction. "The
coastal Georgia/South Carolina set
ting is integral to the story," she
explains.
The beaches and marshland
around Savannah are as important
as the characters.
Losing the Moon is a relation
ship story about lost love. An ordi
nary day takes an extraordinary
turn when Amy Reynolds, a wife
and mother, unexpectedly encoun
ters the man she loved 25 years
ago. That he is the father of her
son's girlfriend compounds already
complicated relationships.
Henry takes her readers on an
amazing journey as her characters'
perfect lives are tested.
"The story isn't romantic as
much as emotional fiction for the
way we live." A gifted writer,
Henry appreciates the difference
between real life and happily-ever-
after, realistically resolving her
characters' issues. As a result her
work is genuine.
Women's relationships and
"decisions made from the heart"
form her inspiration. Henry plots
her stories by playing what-if sce
narios all day, everyday.
"I pull ideas from daily life,
from the struggles people go
through living a heartfelt life. It all
comes back to who you are."
The Center is not alone in its
acclaim for Henry's work. New
York Times best-selling author Debo
rah Smith says, "Henry joins the
ranks of Anne Rivers Siddons and
Pat Conroy with this debut novel."
According to another writer
familiar with the NY Times best
seller list, Haywood Smith, author
of The Red Hat Club, "Patti Calla
han Henry's engaging story and
compelling characters captured my
heart on page one."
Her book will be featured and/or
reviewed in May issues of Southern
Living, Atlanta Magazine and
Woman's Day. Atlanta Woman will
run a sidebar and feature article.
