Krista Rae Kalkwarf of Seward,
Ne. and Joseph Warren Mullins of
Jasper are planning a Saturday, June
5, 2004 wedding at the First United
Methodist Church in Knoxville, Tn.
Parents of the couple are Rodney
and Donna Kalkwarf of Seward,
Ken and Andrea Wood of Jasper
and Greg and Wanda Mullins of
Jasper.
The bride-to-be is a 1998 gradu
ate of Seward High School. She
attended Midland Lutheran College
and graduated in 2002 with a Bach
elor’s degree in Fitness and Sports
Management. She currently attends
the University of Tennessee where
she is a Marketing and Promotions
Graduate Assistant with the Lady
Vols and plans to graduate in May
with a Master’s degree in Sport and
Leisure Studies.
The groom-elect is a 1998 gradu
ate of Pickens High School. He
attended Reinhardt College and
graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor’s
degree in Sports Administration. He
currently attends the University of
Tennessee where he is a Graduate
Teaching Associate and plans to
graduate in May with a Master’s
degree in Sport and Leisure Studies.
Philip Bryant Korytoski cele
brated his 1st birthday on Jan. 31,
2004. His parents are Debbie and
Richard Korytoski of Columbus.
Grandparents are Edith Bryant of
Jasper and Dorothy and Robert
Korytoski of Pine Mountain.
91st Birthday
Azzie Buchanan Fann of Jasper,
Ga. turns 91 years young on May
13, 2004. She was born in Pickens
County to Andy and Flora Padgett
Wofford in 1913. Granny, you’ll
never know how much we love you

their class reunion at Jasper Family

Old Canton Cotton Mill Village
get-together
If you have ever lived in the Old
Mill Village (Roosterville), Sandy
Hook, Academy Street, Hill Street
or Railroad Street, you’re invited to
a fun get-together to reminisce and
see folks you may not have seen in a
long time that used to live there.
We’ll talk about how it used to be in
the cotton mill and life in the vil
lage. Family members are welcome.
This will be held at the Cherokee
Shrine Club located on Hickory
Road in Holly Springs on Saturday,
June 12 at 11 a.m. Bring old photos
and precious memories to share with
old friends and neighbors.
Kentucky Fried Chicken will
cater the meal which includes one
chicken breast, green beans,
whipped potatoes, slaw, biscuit and
iced tea. If you would like, you are
welcome to bring a dessert to share.

Young Harris
The 118th Young Harris College
Commencement exercise took place
on Saturday, May 1 in the Hilda D.
Glenn Auditorium when 170 stu
dents received their undergraduate
degrees. The Rev. Don Harp, senior
minister at Peachtree Road United
Methodist Church in Atlanta, gave
the commencement address. Dr.
Clay Dotson, president of Young
Harris, conferred degrees upon the
graduation. Local graduates follow:
Patton William Childers II will
receive the Associate of Arts upon
completion of additional hours. He
is the son of Pat and Debbie
Childers of Jasper and grandson of
Bobbie and Emmett Childers, Eve
lyn Childers and Edna Roper, all of
Jasper.
Leslie Elizabeth Hardwick
received the Associate of Science
with concentration in Education.
She is the daughter of Francis and
Lenda Mangham of Jasper and John
and Peggy Hardwick of Marietta.
Melissa Ann McGivern graduat
ed cum laude and earned the Asso
ciate of Fine Arts with concentra
tion in Music. She is the daughter of
Michael and Susan McGivern and
Jasper and Norma Valenzuela, all of
Conyers. Grandparents are John and
Cindy Worrell of Shady Dale,
Michael and Kay McGivern of
Spring Hill, FI. and Anna Chapman
of West Virginia.
Walker Reunion
The Walker family reunion will
be held Sunday, May 30 at Carter’s
Lake.
Wilkie Reunion
The Wilkie Family Reunion will
be held on Sunday, June 13 at Old
Hightower Baptist Church near Free
Home. This will be a covered dish
lunch after church services. All
friends and relatives are invited.

The Pickens County class of ’41
is having their 63rd class reunion. It
will be held Saturday, May 22 at

American Legion
The American Legion meeting
date this month has changed from
May 11 to May 18. The meeting will
be at the Pickens County Library at
7:30 p.m. All members are urged to
attend and membership is open to all
veterans with an honorable dis
charge and those still on active duty.
BBQ Lunch
There will be a BBQ chicken
lunch with all the fixings for $6
(scholarship fundraiser) on Satur

90th Birthday
There will be a 90th birthday cel
ebration for Nancy Reece, a retired
seamstress and resident of Wild
wood Healthcare on Sunday, May
30 from 1-4 p.m. The celebration
will be held at the home of her
granddaughter, Nancy Ledbetter,
3352 Salacoa Rd., Waleska. All
friends and relatives are invited to
attend.

The March 6, 2004 ceremony
was held at Jesus College Chapel in
Oxford, England. Norma Kellogg
Crumbley of LaFayette, Co. was the
matron of honor. Margaret Price of
Atlanta, Ga., Xanthe Langley of
Cambridge, England and Freyja
Tipping of Brighton, England were
bridesmaids. Damon Green of Lon
don was the best man. Other
groomsmen were Oliver Weeks,
Luke Martineau and Alex Fry, all of
whom reside in London.
Valerie is a graduate of Cherokee
High School and the University of
Georgia. She will graduate from
Vanderbilt University Law School
in May, after which she will be
working at the law firm of Shear
man and Sterling, LLP in Washing
ton, D.C. Benjamin received his
undergraduate and doctoral degrees
in Classics from Oxford University
and currently teaches at Durham
University in Durham, England. In
the fall he will be employed as an
assistant professor of classics at
Harvard University in Cambridge,
Ma.
The couple enjoyed a honey
moon in Venice, Italy.
Builders Association
The Pickens County Builders
Association will meet at 7:30 a.m.
Wednesday, May 19 for a breakfast
meeting at the Jasper Steakhouse.
All members and prospective mem
bers are encouraged to attend.
The meeting agenda will include
a discussion on erosion control, the
formation of a Storm Water Com
mittee and an update from the Gov
ernment Affairs Committee on their
work with Pickens County Land
Use Plan. As Mike Haswell of
PCBA noted, “This is a very impor
tant time in the history of Pickens
County requiring good forethought
and planning.”
