North Georgia piano students audition
On Wednesday, May 5 through
Friday, May 7, 35 students of piano
teachers in North Georgia took part
in the National Guild of Piano
Teachers piano playing auditions.
Studios represented were: Kathleen
Cardwell, Murphy, N.C.; Mary Ann
Fox, Young Harris, Ga.; Jan
Manuel, Morganton, Ga.; and Anna
Lee Moss and Patricia Adams, both
of Jasper. The private auditions
were held at the Talking Rock First
Baptist Church.
This annual national piano play
ing event is held in over 900 music
centers from coast to coast and
earns each participant a pin, certifi
cation at each student’s level and a
year’s membership in the National
Fraternity of Student Musicians.
The private auditions afford each
student a “musical check-up’’ under
an outside adjudicator. The students
played 4-10 pieces of memorized
repertoire and were graded in 45
categories in a non-competitive set
ting. Through national recognition
and awards for student achieve
ment, the auditions acknowledge
progress and encourage participants
to continue the study of piano.
Nancy Goff Arnold of Roswell,
Ga. was judge for this year’s audi
tions. Ms. Arnold maintains a stu
dio of private students in Roswell
and has a teaching lineage back
four generations to Beethoven.
