Jasper’s Goin’ Postal replaces
faded American Flags
Lee Etta Ligon
Mrs. Lee Etta Ligon, age 61
of Jasper, Ga., passed away in
Marietta, Ga. on Thursday, June
21, 2007 after a lengthy illness.
Born on August 9, 1945 in
San Francisco, Ca. and a native
of Birmingham, Ah, Mrs. Ligon
was the daughter of the late
John S. Tucker, Jr. and Mary
Elizabeth Trilck Tucker. She
was a graduate of Ramsay High
School and attended the
University of Alabama.
Lee Etta was director of the
kindergarten of the Jasper First
Baptist Church for 21 years.
She served the church in many
capacities with loving dedica
tion and devotion. She also was
one of the founders of the Tater
Patch Players theatrical group
in Jasper and was recently hon
ored by that group for her devo
tion, participation and service
by having that organization’s
current 30th anniversary play
production dedicated to her.
Survivors include her hus
band, Perry Ligon, Jasper;
daughter and son-in-law, Pam
and David Rogers, Ellijay, Ga.;
sons and daughter-in-law, Marc
Ligon, Athens, Ga., and Rusty
and Carol Ann Ligon,
Gainesville, Ga.; grandchildren,
Ryan, Tyler, Aley and Meya
Mosley, Jasper, and Eli and
Emily Ligon, Gainesville; and
sister, Mary Elizabeth Tucker,
Birmingham.
A memorial service was held
on Saturday, June 23 at 11 a.m.
from the First Baptist Church in
Jasper with the Rev. Charles
Walker and Dr. Jimmy Lewis
officiating. The family requests
in lieu of flowers, please make
donations to Jasper First Baptist
Church Kindergarten. Cagle

Hershel Padgett
Mr. Hershel Padgett, age 86
of Jasper, passed Monday after
noon, June 18, 2007 at
Piedmont Mountainside
Hospital.
Survivors include his wife,
Myra L. Padgett, Jasper; daugh
ters and sons-in-law, Betty and
James Ward, Dallas, Ga., and
Barbara and Russell Miller,
Winder, Ga. Five grandchil
dren, six great-grandchildren
and nieces and nephews also
survive.
The funeral service was held
Wednesday, June 20 at 2 p.m.
from Ball Creek Baptist Church
with the Revs. Bill Neese and
Wallace Parks officiating.
Interment followed in the
church cemetery with Michael
Cantrell, Franklin Jordan, Mark
Holcomb, Raymond Kent and
Shea Miller serving as pallbear
ers. Cagle Funeral Home in
charge of arrangements.

Lillie Baldwin
Mrs. Lillie “Rosebud”
Gregory Baldwin, age 69 of
Jasper, Ga., passed away on
Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at
her son’s residence following an
extended illness.
Born in Ellijay, Ga., she was
the daughter of the late John
Bud and Leah Jones Gregory.
She was also preceded in death
by her husband, William Spear
Baldwin, and a sister, Annie
Mae Ray. Mrs. Baldwin was a
homemaker and a member of
the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church
in Pine Log, Ga.
Survivors include sons and
daughters-in-law, Michael and
Carla (Fox) Baldwin, Jasper,
and J.W. and Minnie Baldwin,
Ellijay; daughters and sons-in-
law, Norma and Terry Holland,
Calhoun, and Paula and
Chipper Humphrey, Oakdale,
Tn.; grandchildren, Jamie
Baldwin and Rhonda and Kodie
Humphrey; great-grandchild,
Ethan Baldwin; step-grandchil
dren, Elaina and Russell Davis,
Joey and Amelia Goble; broth
ers and sisters-in-law, Ronnie
and Carolyn Gregory, Calhoun,
Steve and Retha Gregory,
Calhoun, Sonny and Betty
Gregory, Waleska, Jack and
Carolyn Gregory, Ellijay, and
Jim and Barbara Gregory,
Dalton; sister and brother-in-
law, Faye and Dwight Nichols,
Ellijay. Several nieces, nephews
and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held
Saturday, June 23 from Mt.
Pleasant Baptist Church in Pine
Log with the Revs. Chipper
Humphrey and Roger Elliott
officiating. Interment will be in
the church cemetery. The singer
was Dennis Ray. Pallbearers
were: Tommy, Anthony and
Jamie Gregory, Jody Phillips,
Heath McGee and Chris
Barnes. Roper Funeral Home in
charge of arrangements.
Myrtle Taylor
Mrs. Myrtle M. Taylor, age
79 of Collins, Ga., formerly of
Jasper, Ga., passed away
Monday, June 18, 2007 at St.
Joseph Hospital in Savannah,
Ga.
Survivors include her sons
and daughters-in-law, Charles
W. and Mary Ann Taylor,
Pascagula, Ms., and Joey B. and
Charlene Taylor, Collins;
daughter, Reba Taylor, Talking
Rock, Ga.; brother, Vernon
McCarty, Hilliard, FL; sisters,
Gertrude and James McDonald,
Cumming, and Ruth Roundtree,
Darian, Ga. Ten grandchildren
and 14 great-grandchildren also
survive. Mrs. Taylor was pre
ceded in death by her husband,
Joseph W. Taylor; daughter,
Lynda T. Hodges; and daughter
and son-in-law, Wanda and
David McBride.
The funeral service was held
at 1 p.m. Friday, June 22 from
the Chapel of Cagle Funeral
Home with Pastor Tim Logan
officiating. Interment was in
Sunrise Memorial Gardens in
Jasper. Pallbearers were:
Brandon and John Paul Taylor,
Shaun McBride, Hal Davis,
Kevin Hodges and Guy
Stricklin.

Edington, Jr.
Mr. Charles B. Edington, Jr.,
age 80 of Big Canoe, Ga.,
passed Thursday afternoon,
June 21, 2007 at Northside
Hospital-Cherokee in Canton,
Ga.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Mary Lough Edington, Big
Canoe; daughters and sons-in-
law, Debra Hatcher and John,
Newnan, Ga., and Barbara
Swindall and Phillip, Stone
Mountain; sister and brother-in-
law, Mary Ann and Louis
Forsell, Connecticut; sister-in-
law, Melba Edington,
Connecticut. Eight grandchil
dren and three step-daughters
also survive. Mr. Edington was
preceded in death by a son,
Jimmy Edington.
A memorial service will be
held on Friday, June 29 at 11
a.m. from Big Canoe Chapel
with the Rev. Lamar Helms and
Dr. Jim McCormick officiating.
Everyone is invited to the
reception following the memo
rial service in the Broyles
Center at Big Canoe Chapel. In
lieu of flowers, the family asks
that memorials be made to the
Fund at the Big Canoe Chapel,

Jewell Thomason
Mrs. Jewell Holmes
Thomason, age 94 of the
Hinton Community, passed
away Saturday morning, June
23, 2007 at Piedmont
Mountainside Hospital in
Jasper following a period of
declining health.
Born Oct. 9, 1912 in Pickens
County, she was the daughter
of the late Dave and Emma
Anderson Holmes. Jewell was
married to the late Boyd
Thomason and together they
owned and operated
Thomason’s Outlet Store for 50
years. Jewell was a great host
ess and cooked for many peo
ple who would drop by her
house for lunch. She had sever
al hobbies, but her favorites
were watching baseball games
and fishing. Jewell was a mem
ber of the Blaine Eastern Star
for many years and very active
in the Hinton Community. She
was a charter member of the
County Line Baptist Church
where she loved to sing in the
choir.
Jewell was also preceded in
death by a son, Fred
Thomason; son-in-law, Glenn
Duncan; sisters, Clennie
Holmes, Bessie Hammontree
and Ila Barrett; brothers,
Dewey and Hoyle Holmes; and
brother-in-law, O.W. Eubanks.
Survivors include daughters,
Betty Stewart and Shelby
Duncan, both of Hinton;
daughter-in-law, Barbara
Thomason, Hinton; son-in-law,
Emory Stewart, Hinton; broth
er, Winfield Holmes, Jasper;
sister, Bernice Eubanks,
Maryville, Tn.; sisters-in-law,
Louise Holmes, Jasper, and
Christine Holmes, Marietta.
Nine grandchildren, 13 great
grandchildren, two great-great-
grandchildren, four step-great-
grandchildren and five step-
great-great-grandchildren also
survive.
The funeral service was held
at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 24 from
the County Line Baptist
Church with the Revs. Jerry
Banks, Hugh Fields and David
Eubanks officiating. Interment
followed in the church ceme
tery. Pallbearers were: Barry
Duncan, Jeff Thomason, Brian
Pinson, Fred Allen, Danny
Chadwick, Danny Cochran and
a very special pallbearer,
Thomas Pinson. Music was
provided by David Holmes,
Eric Tippens and Evelyn
Townsend. In lieu of flowers,
the family requests that dona
tions be made to the American
Cancer Society or to the Hinton
Fire Department. Roper

arrangements.

Facility. The event was held
from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and was
attended by members of the
Pickens County Chamber of
Commerce, customers and
prospective customers.
During this event attendees
were treated to refreshments and
beverages and given the oppor
tunity to tour the new facility
and learned about the different
services offered.
Cindy Swank, the Director of
Oasis MedSpa, said, “It was a
very lovely evening and was my
pleasure getting to meet all the
wonderful people who came by
in support.”
