Happy Ramblers
(Continued from last week.)
Early Thursday morning
we started out for a tour of
Toronto. The drive over was a
little over 2 hours but the time
passed very quickly because
we had our own entertainment
going on on the bus. In
Toronto we had a step-on
guide who told us all about the
city and what we were seeing.
We stopped at some of the dif
ferent points of interest but the
most fun thing there was the
CN Tower where we went for
lunch. This is supposed to be
the tallest structure in the
world, it took the elevator 58
seconds (of fast traveling, I
might add) to reach the revolv
ing restaurant. It was nice to be
able to see the town and the
lake from so high up in the air
and not be flying, just slowly
revolving around. They have a
glass bridge (short but still a
bridge), and try to imagine in
your mind walking across
something at that height and
looking down through clear
glass. One of our group said
she wished she had a movie of
some of us because we were
tiptoeing and holding out our
hands trying to balance our
selves! I have my picture sit
ting down on this just to prove
that I could do it!
When we arrived back in
Niagara Falls, some of the
ones who like to try their luck
at the Casino went there. I
went too but no need for me to
try my luck, I don’t have that
kind of luck. It would be just
as well for me to walk in and
hand my money to them then
as to run it through the
machine.
We went over to the IMAX
Theater and saw the movie of
the falls there and saw the bar
rels that folks had gone over
the falls in down through the
years. Our next fun thing to do
was ride the 175 ft. high ferris
wheel called the SkyWheel.
Each enclosed gondola is cli
mate controlled and gives you
some wonderful views of the
falls. Our pictures from the top
of this fun ride are just amaz
ing to me. I had never been on
a ride like this with enclosed
seating.
Many of the shops there
were open air type ones and
the merchandise extended out
onto the sidewalks. On Friday
morning we packed up and
headed back to the border. It
was about maybe 1 or so when
we crossed over. The border
patrol came on the bus and
checked each passport. When
he was at the front of the bus I
took a picture of him checking
our papers. He got real torn-up
about it! (Going into Canada
there had been no problem
with making the picture). He
said, “We don’t even let the
news people do that!” Should
have had a sign. One of the
guys on the bus said after we
left that he wanted to say, “She
writes for the news paper!” I
was just glad he didn’t want
my camera, I did delete his
picture, as he requested, no,
demanded. We were glad get
on our way.
Our stop for lunch that day
was at the Henry Ford
Museum and the Greenwich
Village. This is a good place to
plan for the main destination if
you want to plan a trip, you
could easily enjoy a day at
each of these places. The vil
lage is very similar to
Williamsburg, only smaller.
This was our last night out and
it was spent in Sidney, Oh. The
hotel there was the Holiday
Inn and the management was
wonderful to us. We ate in the
hotel restaurant and had a
great salad bar, soup, loaves of
home baked bread and drink
for $5.25 and a continental
breakfast free or full breakfast
for $3 and the best service you
could possibly hope for. Our
lunch today was at the First
Kentucky Fried Chicken there
in Corbin, Ky. I had not been
there so we enjoyed seeing it
and all the museum items
there. We made a rest stop at
the Artisan Center in Berea,
Ky. seeing the different forms
of art works crafted by the stu
dents. We arrived
back in Talking Rock a little
after 7, weary travelers, glad to
be home, but very happy that
we had made this fun-packed
trip to Canada!
