Chamber Board of Directors
There are many life events from which one
graduates: school, professional certification, and
childhood, to name a few.
The event is often marked by our hopes for the
future, feelings of sadness for what we are leaving
behind, and the knowledge that we have accom
plished something during our tenure.
It feels different when you are a Leadership
Pickens graduate.
We can influence the future of Pickens County.
We will not have to leave our fellow classmates
behind, and we accomplished a tremendous
amount during the past year and will continue to
accomplish much as we move forward.
Leadership Pickens began with the first pro
gram in 1989-1990 and has just graduated its 15th
Class.
The ceremony took place on Thursday, June 14
in front of family, community representatives,
members of the Pickens County Chamber of
Commerce, and the Leadership Pickens Steering
Committee.
The evening began with a gourmet meal from
Savor Bar & Grill. Then the graduating class pre
sented a series of vignettes which embodied their
concept of Pickens in the year 2017.
Attendees were treated to an ETC 3 “news”
broadcast, a The Price is Right “game show”, and
a pictorial representation of Pickens County -
past, present and with two possible futures - one
dreary and one hopeful.
The keynote speaker was Dr. Sanford
Chandler, President of Appalachian Technical
College. He shared some of the key learnings he
has acquired throughout his career. Dr. Chandler
would probably agree that this class represented
the subject of his speech - leadership - more than
just adequately.
Certificates were awarded and special thanks
were given to Regina Camp by the graduating
class for her unending support, enthusiasm and
just plain caring.
Come join us. We can determine the better
future for Pickens County through our involve
ment and our commitment - to each other and to
our community.
Look for the next class to start up in October
2007. Applications will be available soon at the
Pickens County Chamber of Commerce and on
the website: www.pickenschamber.com.
