Music festival and duck race Saturday
the race Saturday.
All proceeds go to The Good
Samaritan Health and Wellness
Clinic. All gate admissions of $3
per person will also be given to
the free clinic that serves the
uninsured.
Nate Morgan, the organizer
of the musical portion of the
day, said the festival is a great
venue for the bands and a great
opportunity to see live music in
Jasper.
He said the band’s styles
range from old-time country to
blues/rock. He said all the bands
are suitable for family audi
ences. “The music will be good
for everyone,” he said.
A common thread among the
bands is they are all local acts.
Several have members who are
still in high school here.
Morgan said the acts were
grateful for an opportunity to
play locally. “There’s really no
where to play here unless you
want to do a bar gig,” he said.
“It can be draining to play at a
bar all night. It’s exciting to play
in a festival format.”
Among the acts lined up
Saturday are Curtis and Priscilla
and the Sidekicks who play old
time country; Jessica Adams, a
teenager who plays guitar and
writes her own material; and
Morgan’s own blues band
Hogleg.
A complete schedule of the
bands is on page 6B.
The festival will be held rain
or shine, with tents set up in the
event of rain or for shade.
Blankets, lawn chairs and cool
ers are welcome, but the park
has a no alcohol rule.

Air search of county finds marijuana
Eagle’s Nest Lane in Ball
Ground, was arrested as the
owner of the plants. He also
faces charges for a being a con
victed felon in possession of a
firearm.
Wigington said the plants
were being grown in different
clearings around the residence
with a few more plants scattered
throughout the woods. The chief
deputy said the residence was
about 100 yards inside Pickens
County; most of the plants were
being grown across the line in
Cherokee County. Reynolds
will face charges both here and
in Cherokee for the operation.
Wigington said there was a
“well-beat” trail from Reynolds’
residence to the plants. There
was a potting and growing oper
ation at the residence and the
plants were then being trans
ferred to the woods when they
were big enough. There was
also a watering system set up,
Wigington said.
The plants were not visible
from the road or anywhere but
the air, Wigington said. The
value of the plants was estimat
ed at $250,000, said Wigington.
At this point Wigington said
it’s not clear whether the plants
were a supply for an existing
drug operation or a new venture.
He said many of the plants were
very young and drug task force
agents are still investigating
how this operation might figure
into the larger drug market.
“We don’t usually see this
volume,” he said. “Obviously
this is a tremendous amount of
marijuana being taken of the
street.”
Wigington said in unrelated
cases, drug agents also made
arrests at two different resi
dences based on confidential
tips and search warrants.

Emergency Response employees hold Safety Day
What safety tip does he give?
He didn’t really know how he
fit in to Safety Day, but he knew
one thing for sure.
“I bet if we got a tornado out
here, they’d be calling us up,”
he said.
The first safety day was
organized by the Pickens
Sheriff Department with the
idea that it become an annual
event.
Everyone enjoyed Wigginton the robot, a charming remote-con
trolled mini-officer that sang “Bad Boys” everywhere it went.
