Ga. completed requirements for
a Bachelor of Arts degree and
graduated from Maryville
College.
Almost 225 seniors partici
pated in commencement exer
cises held May 20 on the

mencement address to

biographer and senior judge in
the District of Columbia Court

uates to “find courage” and
“live with honor” just a Wiley
Rutledge, a Maryville College
student from the early 20th cen
tury.
Ferren, who was awarded an
honorary degree from the
College along with 1960 alum
nus and Elmhurst College
President Dr. Bryant Cureton,

Conscience of the Court: The
Story of Justice Wiley Rutledge
in 2004. Ferren told the gradu

in 1949, heard the “still small
voice” described in the Biblical
story of Elijah in 1 Kings 19:9-
13.
“[Rutledge] head that little
voice - the “still small voice” -
that calls us to do the right thing
as we perceive it,” the speaker
said. “Even when we are virtual
ly alone.”
McCurdy, a 2003 graduate of
