Blackwell - Wilkie
Mack Ashworth Phillips
turned 1 year old on June 30,
2007. He celebrated his special
day with a pool party with his
big sister Sadie Marie and other
family and friends. Mack and
Sadie are the children of
Merrimeth and Rick Phillips of
Talking Rock.
Maggie Olar Ray of Tate,
Ga., now living at the Marietta
Health Care Center, celebrated
her 92nd birthday July 15, 2007
with family and friends. Happy
birthday. We love you - Your

50th Anniversary
James and Betty Evans

their 50th wedding anniversary
with a party given by their chil
dren at the Hinton Clubhouse
on Saturday, August 4 at 2 p.m.

Svea Closser of Jasper
received a Master of Arts from
the Graduate School of Arts and
Sciences of Emory University
in Atlanta, Ga. at its 162nd
commencement ceremony on
May 14, 2007.
Dalton State
Dalton State College has
named 38 students to the Dean's
List for summer semester 2007,
including one from Pickens
County. To be named, a student
must maintain a full-time
course load of 12 or more
semester hours and achieve an
overall GPA of 3.5 out of a pos
sible 4.0.
Phillip Jones, of Talking
Rock, was named.
Dean Wilkie and Christy
Blackwell will be united in mar
riage on Sunday, August 19,
2007 at 2 p.m. at the Ball
Ground Community Building,
located in Ball Ground, Ga. The
reception will follow the cere
mony.
The bride's parents are Lo-
neva Blackwell and the late
Harvey Blackwell of
Dawsonville. The groom’s par
ents are Judy Wilkie of Jasper
and Jimmy Wilkie of Ellijay.
The bride and groom’s chil
dren will help them celebrate
this wonderful day by taking
part in the wedding ceremony.
The bride’s son, Steven, will
give his mother away. The
bride’s son, Chandler, will be
the ring-bearer. The bride's
daughter, Sirena, will be the
bride’s maid of honor. Shaun,
the son of the groom, will be the
best man.
50th Anniversary
Jack and Ann Stone of Jasper
celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary on July 20, 2007.
They had mentioned they would
like to go somewhere for a
relaxing, quiet weekend. Shirley
and Jackie Mitchell (sister and
brother-in-law) surprised them
by making reservations at a
lodge in the mountains for them.
May they have many more years
together.
High school parking permits
Pickens High School will be
selling parking permits on
Tuesday, July 31 from 9-11 a.m.
and 1-2:30 p.m. for seniors.
Juniors can purchase their per
mits from 9-11 a.m. and 1-2:30
p.m. on Tuesday, August 1.
Parking permits are $30 and can
be purchased at Pickens High
School. Forms will be available
in the front office at Pickens
High School on Monday July
23. In order to purchase the
parking permit the student has
to have a valid drivers license,
proof of insurance and a parent
signature if under 18. All paper
work must be complete in order
to purchase the permit. Please
see Harold Culbreth to purchase
your parking permit.
Class of ’57
The class reunion for the
1957 graduating class from
Pickens High will be Saturday,
August 18 at the Dean Center
Building at Amicalola Electric
here in Jasper. It will begin at 6
with hors d’oeuvres. This was
the last class to graduate from
the building now used as Jasper
Elementary School. Please call

50th Anniversary
Betty Rau, a Jasper resident,
celebrated a milestone birthday
on Saturday, July 21, 2007. A
luncheon was given in her
honor at the Carriage House and
was attended by many friends
and family from the Jasper area
as well as family from Ohio,
Texas, New Mexico, Michigan,
Alabama and California. Thank
you all for helping make this a
very special day! We love you.

The Weldon Lowe Senior
Center was full of fun and
excitement when the Jasper
Lions Club helped celebrate
with those having recent birth
days. As always, there was plen
ty of cake and ice cream and a
most exciting time of Bingo

Morris Reunion
The Morris family reunion
will be held Sunday, July 29 at
Amicalola Falls State Park,
Shelter #1. All friends and fam
ily are invited to attend. Please
bring a picnic lunch. Lunch will
be around 12:30.
Gartrell/Goble Reunion
The Gartrell/Goble family
reunion will be held at
Whitestone Baptist Church
Fellowship Hall on Saturday,
August 4 at 11:30 a.m. Since we
didn’t have a reunion last year,
let’s all go and have fun eating
good food, laughing a lot and, of
course, talking nonstop. -

year class reunion. Anyone who

Victoria Wright would like
to announce the birth of her
brother, Christian Jacob. He
was bom Dec. 27, 2006 at PMH
and weighed 9 lbs. and was 22
inches long. His proud parents
are Leah and Josh Wright.

Joe Hughes. Great-grandparents
are Jack and JoAnn Norton and
