classes are broken into school
grade.
In their showmanship
classes, Lauren placed 3rd and
Katherine won her class and
brought home the blue ribbon.
In weight class, Lauren placed
7th with her lamb. Katherine
has three lambs to exhibit this
year. She won 2nd, 3rd and 4th
in her weight classes.
Katherine also got to help
“judge” the peewee class show
men. These are youngsters that
are too small to exhibit a lamb
in the regular show. They
should be under 1st grade.
Congratulations and good
luck in the next few shows.

On Thursday, Sept. 16, eight
Pickens County 4-H’ers traveled
to the NW GA Regional Fair to
compete in a Livestock Judging
Contest. In this contest, 4-H’ers
judged classes of replacement
heifers, market steers, bulls, mar
ket hogs, breeding gilts, yearling
ewes and year lambs. The pur
pose of the contest is to have
youngsters place a class of four
animals from best to worse based
on their market or breeding char
acteristics. This contest helps 4-
H’ers develop their personal
decision making skills while se
lecting the best livestock.
Senior team members were:
Christina Farron, William Roper,
Timothy Crenshaw, Travis
Painter, Lauren Cooper, and
Katherine Kirby. Junior members
were: Courtney Painter and Alice

Chattahoochee Technical Col
lege students, faculty and staff
celebrated Constitution Day and
Citizenship Day a day early this
year by handing out copies of the
document that will turn 223
years old this year. Faculty mem
bers manned the tables and
handed out the more than 1,000
copies of the document that had
been ordered.
“We want our students in
formed on the constitution and
by giving them pocket constitu
tions, perhaps they will read
them and become more familiar
with them,” said Jodie Vangrow,
Chattahoochee Technical Col
lege Social Sciences Division
chair. “Being aware of it is the
first step in the knowledge
quest!”
In addition to pocket sized
versions of the Constitution,
snacks were provided. Posters
designed by one of the school’s
American Government class
were also on display for the day.
As a school receiving federal fi
nancial aid money for students,
celebrating such federal obser
vances is important, according to
Vangrow.
The nationally recognized
Constitution Day is held Sept. 17
to commemorate the formation
and signing of the Constitution
and recognize all who, by com
ing of age or by naturalization,
have become citizens.
