Board of Realtors gives back to community
The Pickens County Board of Realtors® (PCBR) Community
Service Committee hosted a Yard Sale on Saturday, Sept. 11 to raise
funds to benefit the Pickens Animal Rescue, the Joy House and the
Good Samaritan Center.
Members of the PCBR donated books, toys and household items
throughout the month.
Special thanks to Home Depot and the owners of Bryant Square
Office Park for donating the use of the office unit for storage. “It was
a great day to be with family and neighbors helping others in our
community,” said Linda Travis, president of PCBR.

What .V involved
in a Community
Used-Book Sale?
Our Community Used-Book
Sale held on Sept. 10-11 was a
great success. There is an enor
mous amount of time and effort
involved in the sale and I’d like
to tell you a little about the
process. Initially, all books do
nated to the library are assessed
for inclusion in our collection.
Those items not added to our col
lection are boxed up and trans
ported to the storage unit that
R&R Self Storage provides free
of charge to the Friends of the Li
brary every year. The week be
fore the sale the Friends transport
the boxes of books from the stor
age facility to the Appalachian
Campus of Chattahoochee Tech
nical College and the task of sort
ing the thousands of books
begins. These folks would make
any librarian proud. The books
are so well organized that it takes
only a moment to locate a title,
an author, or a subject.
I want to thank all of the
Friends of the Pickens Library
who worked so hard to make this
sale possible. On behalf of the
Friends and the library, I want to
thank all of you who donated
books and all of you who pur
chased items at the sale. We also
want to thank Chattahoochee
Technical College, Appalachian
Campus for the generous use of
their lovely meeting rooms and
the men from Timothy House
who helped move the boxes to
the college. Books not sold were
donated to the Community Thrift
Store and Animal Rescue. All
proceeds from this sale will be
used for the purchase of new
books and materials for the Pick
ens County Library.
