A class of 14 paramedics

Fire Chief Bob Howard said
the “very intense class” started
on November 3rd and those at
tending had been required to put
in a lot of hard work.
He said 14 emergency work

fied as paramedics. Howard said
all ambulances and fire trucks
have at least one paramedic on
board.
Sloan Elrod, the county EMS
director, congratulated all the
new paramedics, “It is a tremen

have worked very hard to make
Pickens County a safer place to
live.”
Elrod said they all had to sac

training. But having these skills

Booster Club formed for PCMS Chorus
The Pickens Middle School Chorus with Director Jack Louden.
The Pickens County Middle
School Chorus Department is off
to another exciting year with a
new group of students, under the
direction of Jack Louden.
Mr. Louden has been teaching
choral music for over 20 years
and especially enjoys working
with middle school choirs. He
graduated a year ago with his
Master’s degree in Choral Con
ducting from GA State Univer
sity. As a published
composer/arranger, he has had
choirs perform in Philadelphia,
Delaware, Georgia and Florida
(Disney World). Mr. Louden in
corporates the body, mind and
spirit as part of the entire choral
singing experience, and has done
extensive research on the chang
ing middle school singing voice.
We are also proud to an
nounce a new Booster Club for
the Choral Department. The
Pickens County Middle School
Chorus Booster Club is a non
profit organization formed to as
sist the PCMS Choral Music
Department. The Booster Club
believes that educating young
people in the arts is vital to culti
vating the future success of our
society. We also believe that the
values of self-discipline and self-
expression are enhanced for our
choral students through partici
pation in music unlike any other
experience. The club further en
courages the PCMS Chorus De
partment’s philosophy of enrich
ing appreciation for music and
the expression of that which
makes us human.
During the school year, the
Booster Club will rely on
fundraisers and support from the
Community to produce the funds
that enable us to present the stu
dents with the best music and
equipment possible. Though
Pickens County supplies PCMS
with the basic tools to run a cho
rus program, it is with the sup
port of this Booster Club that
PCMS is able to do all the things
that make the Chorus program so
outstanding.

Newspeople all over the na
tion have been busy writing
about elections. Candidates like
me have been putting up signs
and asking people to vote for
them. Meanwhile, another group
has been busy at work.
The Georgia Tax Reform and
Fairness Council has been meet
ing consistently throughout the
fall. The Council has been on a
fact-finding mission in our state.
Their job is to study the state’s
revenue stmcture and to make
any recommendations to the leg
islature that they determine are
necessary.
I attended the listening ses-
Report from the Capitol
By State Representative Rick Jasperse
Changes in taxation
sions that were held in Rome and
in Gainesville. These sessions
are for you to discuss with the
Council your needs and wants as
they relate to taxes in our state.
The members of the Council lis
tened intently as the public
spoke. What I thought was very
good is that the Council asked
those who made comments ques
tions and at times had short dis
cussions with them.
Dining October, two more lis
tening sessions will be held. One
will be Oct. 21 in Blue Ridge
from 10 a.m.-l p.m. at the Fan
nin County Recreation Center.
Next they will be in Dalton on
Oct. 27 from 11 a.m. -7 p.m., lo
cation not set. Please look at their
Web site for location.
The council has a very good
Web site on taxation in our state
at fiscalresearch.gsu.edu/tax-
council/index.htm. You will find
background information, meet
ing materials, public comments
and a place where you can sub
mit comments without having to
attend a meeting. I hope I see you
in Blue Ridge or in Dalton
As your State Legislator for
the 12th District, if I can be of
service to you, please e-mail me
at rick@rickjasperse.org or call
me at 770-893-2039.

munity Bank, Party Time Sales
