Class of ’56 holds reunion
The Pickens County High School
Class of 1965 celebrated their
45th class reunion on Saturday,
Oct. 2 at the Bent Tree Club
house. The most common word
of the night was “grandchildren”.
Life-long friendships bom in a
simpler era abounded and an ap-
Happy Ramblers
Have you cleared your attic
out lately? We have been living
here 46 years and I’ve always
had (and used) storage space
there. This is my first time to
ever clear it out completely, not
only that, I believe it will be my
last! I had the diaper bag I had
used with Tony (who was 3 when
we built the house), his games,
ball glove, etc., old love letters
from T.P., a birthday invitation
when I was about 4 years old,
and this type things. I also had
some of the treasured items that
Tom had collected and decora
tion for every holiday season. I
used to decorate almost every
room for the season (this was
when Tony was young and also
when the grandsons were
young), now I do well to get a
jack-o-lantern out and then
maybe two pilgrims for Thanks
giving but I do spread the works
for Christmas! Oh, well, we got
it down, problem not solved
though. After the extra insulation
goes in, it’s back up with lots of
this stuff. I once told Truman that
I thought we should just play like
we were moving every now and
then to clear stuff out!
The Marble Festival was a
great success this year I thought.
I always enjoy doing the marble
tour and meeting new folks. The
toms of the marble industry are a
big drawing card for our festival
and gives us a wonderful oppor
tunity to promote our county and
to welcome outsiders to visit us
and enjoy the beauty of our
county.
We went up to the Hiawassee
Fair and there was a large crowd
there. The music building was al
most completely full, but I told
Sue I bet if they ask everyone
under 50 to stand there wouldn’t
have been 25 standing up!
We are always looking for
new craft items and we just don’t
find them anymore. There are
lots of the “old timers” that have
retired from this type events.
Don’t forget our Festival at
Talking Rock this weekend; it is
small and has a “down home fla
vor” that we enjoy, so come on
down! We are kinda family re
union style and you are apt to get
a hug from someone, but if not,
there will be smiling faces to
greet you, good food, music, etc.
