Works coming in for the Chair Affair
As the Crow Flies
By Kathe Hall
More than something to sit on, works are begin
ning to come in for the Chair Affair raffle. Creative
chairs are due by Nov. 8 and will be auctioned off
to benefit North Star Educations and Therapeutic
Services.
As of last week, at least four works were on
hand. They are all creatively made and titled: Why

Sit when you can stand, Daryl Reddy; Doll and Her
Chair by Cindi Goodwin; As the Crow Flies by
Kathe Hall; and Black Chair is a Christmas Chair.
Chairs are due by Sunday, Nov. 8 between 2-4

Ranger Community to host Arts
and Crafts Fair Oct. 30
“Well, we’ve been going
through some hard times our
selves, and I just thought it
would be neat to find some way
that we might be able to help
some of the local families that
have been going through these
hard times,” said Sheila
Clackum, originator of the 2010
Ranger Arts and Crafts Fair, “so
I thought about the idea of hav
ing an arts and crafts day with re
ally good smoked barbecue and
maybe some yard sale and flea
market stuff. Just whatever peo
ple might want to bring that
would attract a crowd and maybe
bring a little cash into hurting
households.”
The 2010 Ranger Arts and
Crafts Fair will be on Saturday,
Oct. 30 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.,
indoors, at the Ranger Commu
nity Center. The Community
Center - originally a small 1940s
era school house - is just off the
main highway. Just take U.S.
Highway 411 running north-
south through eastern Gordon
county to the little hamlet of
Ranger, 4 miles north of Fair-
mount and about 5 miles south of
Carter's Lake, and turn off 411
on Liberty Church Road at the
tiny brick Post Office. Turn right
back to the left on Church Street;
the Ranger Baptist Church, the
Ranger Seventh-Day Adventist
Church and the Ranger Commu
nity Center itself is right across
the road from the Ranger Park
and Playground.
“The Community Center isn’t
really visible from Highway
411,” said Clackum, “but it is
very easy to find.”
Some of the “best smoked
pork barbecue in three counties”
will be available throughout the
day for $3.50 a sandwich and
$7.50 per pound. “If all you
come for is the barbecue, you
won’t be disappointed,” she
added.
Community response has
been very good, with some
spaces still available but going
fast. “We’re going to have a real
selection of great items: barbe
cue, fresh local honey, fresh
homemade preserves, homemade
spicy fudge, handmade Christ
mas wreaths, face painting,
handmade children’s clothes,
hand-tied fishing flies, local fire
wood, handmade note cards,
