Marcelle Burgess Brandi Marshall
William Roberts
William Ellis Roberts was
bom April 22, 1931 in Newark,
N.J., and passed away Oct. 9,
2010 with his wife and daughters
at his bedside after a lengthy ill
ness. His parents were Samuel
Ellis and Louise Sanwald
Roberts.
Bill was a graduate of Nichols
Junior College, Dudley, Ma. He
attended Franklin & Marshall
College, Lancaster, Pa. for a
year. After serving as an M-l
rifle instructor at Ft. Dix, N.J.
during the Korean War, he then
completed his education at Up-
sala College, East Orange, N.J.
Bill retired as Underwriting man
ager with Crum & Forster Insur
ance after 25 years.
He was a sweet man who
loved his family and enjoyed
card games, especially “skunk
ing” others in cribbage. He had a
kind nature, a dry wit and a twin
kle in his eye. His family and
friends will miss him dearly.
Everyone will remember his
smile; it spoke 1,000 words.
He was married for 55 years
and is survived by his loving
wife, Joan Mobus Roberts;
daughters. Eve Roberts Lee,
Jasper, Ga., and Doris Roberts
(Vince) Estes, Nashville, Tn. Bill
had five adoring grandchildren,
Greg (Jacqueline) Lee, Melissa
(Adam) Perry, Turner (Alisha)
Lee, Carmen Estes and Mitchell
Estes Jr.; and four precious great
grandchildren, Kayla and Car
men Perry, Colby Flemmings
and Noah Lee.
Bill was the middle child in
the Roberts’ family and is sur
vived by two older sisters, one
younger sister and a younger
brother.
A memorial service was held
at New Lebanon Presbyterian
Church in Jasper on Saturday,
Oct. 16 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flow
ers, donations may be given to
New Lebanon Presbyterian
Church to support local missions.
Mrs. Marcelle E. Burgess, age
81 of Fairmount, Ga., departed
this life Friday afternoon, Oct. 8,
2010 at the Gordon Hospital in
Calhoun surrounded by her lov
ing family. Mar
celle was bom Sept. 15, 1929 in
Gordon County, Ga., a daughter
of the late John Wesley and Inez
Hamrick Evans. She was also
preceded in death by her great
grandchildren, Emily and Molly
Caylor; special loved ones, Char
lie H. Goble, Glenn and Carl
Yancey.
Marcelle was a loving wife,
mother, grandmother, great
grandmother and a friend to so
many. She was the oldest mem
ber of Ranger Baptist Church
where she taught Sunday School
for many years.
She is survived by her hus
band of 62 years, Paul Burgess
Sr., Fairmount; son and daughter-
in-law, Paul Jr. and Tara Burgess,
Calhoun; daughters and sons-in-
law, Judy and Lamar Caylor,
Smyrna, Ga., Paula and Danny
Taylor, Adairsville, Ga., Joy and
Jim Dodd and Pam and Steven
McGlamery, all of Fairmount;
sisters-in-law, Ruth Roland,
Jasper, Faye Weeks, Jack
sonville, FI., and Gladys Harris,
Carrolton, Ga.; grandchildren,
Dan and Tundra Taylor, Will
Taylor, Marc and Heather Cay
lor, Evan and Rebecca Caylor,
Marilyn and Johnnie Coats,
Jayme Dodd, Kristi McGlamery,
Steve McGlamery, Trey Burgess,
Rhett Burgess, Ryan Burgess;
great-grandchildren, Wes Taylor,
Braxton Coats, Braeden Coats,
Miranda Caylor; and special
loved one, Phyllis Lacey of Elli-
jay-
A service to celebrate her life
was held Monday, Oct. 11 at 2
p.m. from Ranger Baptist Church
with the Revs. Davis Lacey and
Eddy Hensley officiating. She
was laid to rest in the Fain Ceme
tery. Pallbearers were her grand
sons.

Brandi Danielle Marshall, age
27 of Jasper, passed away on
Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010.
Survivors include her hus
band, Luke Marshall, Jasper;
son, Lucious James Marshall,
Jasper; father, Byron Howard,
Woodstock; mother, Helen
Carter, Bemie, Mo.; brothers,
Zachary Howard, Woodstock,
and Jimmy Bridges, Bemie, Mo.;
and grandmother, Barbara
Whitehead, Bemie, Mo. Several
aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews
and cousins also survive.
The funeral service was held
at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16 from
Sosebee Memorial Chapel with
the Rev. Robert Barber officiat

Laura Martin
Mrs. Laura Michelle Martin,
age 42 of Ball Ground, Ga., died
Tuesday, Oct. 12,2010 at her res
idence following her battle with
cancer.
Bom May 1, 1968 in Char
lotte, N.C., she was preceded in
death by her father, Frank Lee
Harris. Mrs. Martin had worked
as the Deli manager with Kroger
in Jasper, Ga.
Survivors include her hus
band, Eddie Martin, Ball
Ground, Ga.; daughter, Jessie
Kay Martin, Canton, Ga.; son,
Matthew Daniel Martin, Canton,
Ga.; mother, Mrs. Geraldine Gol-
gelson, Iowa; sisters, Darlene
Horne, Austell, Ga., and Sherri
Jacobs, Texas; and brother, Lee
Harris, Texas. Several nieces,
nephews, aunts, uncles and
cousins also survive.
At her request, Mrs. Martin
was cremated.
