Happy Ramblers
This being the month of Oc
tober, we again dressed in cos
tume for our club meeting. As we
arrived, sitting on the bench in
front of the building was a witch.
She looked so much like the
Hansel and Gretel witch that
folks could hardly tell if she was
real or just dressed up for the
day! Then came Little Bo Peep,
the Red Barron, Minnie Pearl, a
farm girl, then “I don’t do morn
ings” still in PJ’s, robe and hair
curlers, another Fairy Story char
acter, a ’50s gal, an escaped con
vict and others.
We got part of our business
taken care of before lunch, cards
sent, the meeting for next month
set up, trips discussed and then
time for just visiting. We had a
covered dish dinner and, as al
ways, it was delicious! Pete,
Prentice, Peggy and Carolyn
were the hostess and one thing
they served was the best ham I
believe I have ever eaten. Peggy
had made a huge pot of chicken
dumplings which is always a big
hit and I’ll just not try to list all
the different foods.
After Bible reading and
prayer we answered the roll with
some funny Halloween stories.
One had a man sitting on the
porch dressed as a ghost and an
other one standing by with a re
mote control in his hand and
when someone would come up
he would tell them to see how
with his remote he could get the
ghost to move his arms, legs, etc.
When a lady stepped up on the
porch the ghost jumped up and
the lady left a very wet spot on
the porch! Another story was of
every kid in Tate using the same
kind of disguise, a nylon stock
ing pulled down over their head;
another real funny thing was a
life-size man (stuffed clothes of
course) sitting on the porch and
for days the neighbor thought it
was real and would wave and
speak to it; one lady dressed up
as a farmer and went to the class
room to pick up her kids and lit
tle girl said she knew it was her
mama cause she recognized her
daddy’s old boots! This was just
a few of the funny stories we
heard. As always it was a fun day
of being together.
