Tater Patch Players
Some of us remember it.
Some of us have never experi
enced it in a theater full of fans.
Now is your opportunity, right in
our own community at your the
ater. The Rocky Horror Picture
Show is a humorous and some
what twisted tribute to the sci
ence fiction and horror “B”
movies of the late 1940s through
early 1970s. It introduced Tim
Curry as the cross-dressing Dr.
Frank N Furter, and features
Susan Sarandon and Barry Bost-
wick in very early roles in their
careers. Still in limited release
nearly four decades after its pre
miere, it has the longest-running
theatrical release in film history.
It gained notoriety as a midnight
movie in 1977 when audiences
began participating with the film
in theaters. The film has a large
international cult following and
is one of the most well-known
midnight movies of all time. In
2005 the film was selected for
preservation in the United States
National Film Registry by the Li
brary of Congress as being “cul
turally, historically or
aesthetically significant.”
The movie is rated R so you
need to be 17 or older (or be ac
companied by a parent or
guardian) to see it. Tater Patch
will be serving their usual assort
ment of snacks and beverages
and maybe a few extra treats.
Rocky “props” will be available
to purchase at a very nominal
cost, so that you can share in the
full “Rocky” experience.
Click on the Buy Tickets but
ton on the Tater Patch website
(www.taterpatchplayers.org) to
be sure of securing the best seat
in the house. Costumes are en
couraged but not mandatory
Tickets are $12 per person or $20
for a couple on the website or at
the door beginning one hour be
fore show time. The movie will
be presented at 8 on Oct. 26 for
one show only. Time is fleeting,
get your tickets!
In the spirit of the holidays to
come, Tater Patch is using this
opportunity to kick off their Hol
iday Toy Drive with a special
box in the lobby to collect your
donation to Toys for Tots. They
thank the Pickens County Marine
Corps League for letting us help.
“The mission of the U.S. Marine
Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Pro
gram is to collect new, un
wrapped toys during October,
November and December each
year and distribute those toys as
Christmas gifts to needy children
in the community.” So when you
come to share the fun, share
some love with others in the
community too! The toy drive
will be for Rocky Horror and last
through their upcoming theatri
cal production of Dashing
Through the Snow.

The Rose == V^
Paulyne M. Penrod
Near a shady wall a rose once grew,
Budded and blossomed in God’s free light,
Watered and fed by morning dew,
Shedding its sweetness day and night.
As it grew and blossomed fair and tall,
Slowly rising to loftier height,
It came to a crevice in the wall,
Through it there shone a beam of light,
Top GOP leaders gather in Jasper
Onward it crept with added strength,
With never a thought of fear or pride,
It followed the light through the crevice’s length
And unfolded itself on the other side.

On Oct. 8, Jasper became the

were here to ask what a lot of
people seem to be thinking, “Is
the Republican Party the party of
‘No?’”
Prior to the meeting at 7 p.m.
at Chattahoochee Technical Col
lege in Jasper, the speakers were
treated to a hearty meal from our
own FATZ Restaurant in Jasper.
Teb Bowman, Pickens County
GOP chairman, sat with Vicki
Willard, chairwoman of the Re
publican Foundation, Linda Her-
ren, GA Committeewoman to the
National GOP, and John Padgett,
chairman of the Georgia Repub
lican Party. Also enjoying the
meal was Rob Jones, chairman
of Pickens County Commission
ers, Rich Anderson, vice chair
man of Programming, Stephen
Hall, Parliamentarian, Bart Con
nelly, vice chairman of Precinct
Development, and Lurline Argo,
vice chair of Fundraising.
The program was productive
and provided a new perspective
about the direction of the party
on a local, state and national
level. No is not the word the Re
publicans choose but making
people stop and listen is some
times harder than imagined. The
New Vision, both locally in our
own group and state wide, shows
a new willingness to listen to the
people who only want jobs, some
security, medical benefits and the
opportunity to make their own
way without so much govern
ment intrusion. Mr. Don Gonyea
of National Public Radio visited
our meeting as well. The press is
