Pickens County 4-H Hog team

This year the 24th Annual
Georgia National Fair in Perry
was held Oct. 3-13. Eight 4-
H’ers traveled to Perry on Oct.
10-12 for the Market Hog and
Breeding Gilt Show.
Courtney Chapman, Emily
Dean, Elizabeth Adams, Carter
and Mattie Nicholson, Ashley
Edwards, Eli Godfrey and
Joshua Moss checked their hogs
in on Thursday, Oct. 10, for the
fair show. The kids showed in the
Showmanship classes and in
their individual gilt and market
hog classes.
Placing in Showmanship this
year was Eli Godfrey with a 10th
place win. In the Duroc gilt class,
Courtney was 6th place and
Joshua was 9th. Eli placed 6th in
his York gilt class. In the “termi
nal” gilt class, Elizabeth was 2nd
place. In the commercial gilt
show, Emily was 2nd and Mattie
was 10th.

Jasper Lions Club
On Oct. 10, the Jasper Lions
Club welcomed members of the
Ellijay, Ball Ground and Blue
Ridge Lions clubs to the first
Zone Meeting of the 2013-14
Lions year. The meeting was
held in Walker Hall of the Jasper
First Baptist Church, the Jasper
club’s regular meeting place.
Jasper Club President Danny
Fink welcomed those attending.
Zone Chairman Tony Pishnery
also welcomed the attendees and
District Governor Mark Rice and
1st Vice District Governor Gar
ner Andrews also attended.
Gary Atkins led the Pledge to
the Flag and Danny Fink gave
the Invocation.
Time then for a very delicious
dinner provided by Brenda and
Ray Rogers and Brandi Nimmo
of Taste of Joy Catering of Ball
Ground.
Following dinner, the club
presidents gave a short presenta
tion of their club’s main commu
nity project and any new project
they are working on for the up
coming year. The presentations
were given by Bob Fenner of the
Ellijay Cub, Danny Fink of the
Jasper Club, Gary Atkins of the
Ball Ground Club and Barry
Broach of the Blue Ridge Club.
Their presentations were inspir
ing and gave real evidence of the
service being provided by their
clubs to their communities.
Several announcements of
upcoming events were given and
Lawton Baggs, chairman of LEO
Club activities, reported on their
recent activities.
