Toney elected to State Committee
By Nancy Davis
Once again Pickens County
has a State Committee member
from the county. Larry Toney
was elected to the State Com
mittee at the 9th District Com
mittee meeting in Demorest last
week. Larry has represented the
9th District before so this is not
his first “horse race.”
The State Committee is the
governing, policy-making lead
ership body for the Georgia Re
publican Party. It is comprised of
the officers including John Pad
gett, chairman, Michael Mc-
Neely, 1st vice chair, and Linda
Herren, committeewoman to the
National GOP. The committee is
all elected officials at the state
and national levels, the 14 Dis
trict Chairs and elected members
like Larry representing one of the
14 districts around the state. The
9th District has the largest mem
bership at 15.
The committee holds regular
quarterly meetings at various lo
cations around the state to de
velop strategies and plan for
campaigns in upcoming elec
tions.
He will be assigned to a
standing committee dealing with
state-wide issues in addition to
participating in the quarterly ses
sions. Being on the Committee
gives the people of Pickens
County, as well as those of the
9th District, a voice in state af
fairs.
