Mildred Williams
Mildred Elaine Klein
Williams, age 74 of Panama City,
FL, formerly of Nelson, Ga.,
passed away December 19,2014.
Survivors include her son and
daughter-in-law, Kent and
Tammy Williams, Crestview, FL;
daughter and son-in-law, Kim
berly and Chris Batastini,
Panama City; granddaughters,
Stephanie and Jennifer Williams;
grandsons, John and Christopher
Mills and Morgan and Zackery
Batastini; great-grandchildren,
Hunter Williams and Connor
Batastini; sisters, Helen Brod,
New York, and Gail Jones, Mar
ble Hill; brothers and sister-in-
law, Donald and Cecile Klein
and Ted Klein, all of Ball
Ground, Ga., and Bobby Klein,
Nelson, Ga. Several nieces,
nephews and cousins also sur
vive. Elaine was preceded in
death by a granddaughter, Alexia
Batastini; sister, Mary Lawson;
and mother, Virginia Gilbert.
A memorial service will be
planned at a later date.
Janet Hamrick
Miss Janet Clarice Hamrick,
age 64 of Talking Rock, Ga., died
Sunday, January 4, 2015, at her
home.
Janet was bom December 28,
1950, in Jasper, Ga., to the late
William Jackson Hamrick and
Hazel Allen Hamrick.
She is survived by her sister,
Susan Hamrick Reeves, Talking
Rock; and brothers and sister-in-
law, Allen and Nancy Hamrick,
Hinton, and Gary Hamrick, Sr.,
Talking Rock. Several nieces,
nephews and other relatives also
survive.
The funeral service was held
at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, at
Hinton United Methodist Church
with the Revs. Jim Schlicht and
Joey Buice officiating. Interment
followed in Hinton Cemetery.
Arrangements were entrusted to
the staff of Roper Funeral Home
and Crematory in Jasper.

Retta Smith

Henrietta M. (Retta) Smith,
age 80, died on Thursday, Janu
ary 1, 2015, from issues related
to acute respiratory distress.
Bom August 2, 1934, in Mor-
ganfield, Ky., to Henry and Edna
Moore, she was a 1952 graduate
of Glasgow High School in Glas
gow, Ky. On December 27,1952,
Retta married the man who tmly
was the love of her life, Buford
Edwards Smith. They celebrated
62 years of marriage a few short
days before she died.
Retta and Buford lived in
Evansville, In., for the first 10
years of their marriage where
their four children were born.
They also lived in Camp Hill,
Pa., Chester, IF, Jackson, Tn.,
and Indianapolis, In., where
Retta worked for the IRS provid
ing service support at a taxpayer
assistance center. Retta and Bu
ford retired to Jasper, Ga., in
1998.
Retta was a member of Our
Lady of the Mountains Roman
Catholic Church in Jasper. She
was active in the Bent Tree com
munity where she lived - in
volved with bridge, golf, holiday
celebrations and she will be re
membered as an accomplished
member of the Bent Tree spelling
bee team.
In addition to her husband Bu
ford, survivors include sons and
daughters-in-law, Philip and San
dra Smith, Pittsburgh, Pa., and
Craig and Cynthia Smith,
Knoxville, Tn.; daughters and
sons-in-law. Jama and Carl
Budke, Denver, Co., and Alison
and Gary Wildermuth, Atlanta,
Ga. Retta has six grandchildren;
Amanda Hengle (Robert), Alison
Velazquez (Steve), Corinne
Abernathy (Brandon), Trent and
Travis Wildermuth and Evan
Smith. Her great-grandchildren
are Kelby, Kinsley and Kami
Hengle, Kalum Griffin, Kameron
and Kasey Velazquez and Lily
and Cooper Abernathy. She is
survived by brothers, Carl Moore
(Pat) and Cecil Moore; and sister,
Irene Panerites (George). She
was preceded in death by her
brother, Fred Moore; and half-
brothers, Gerald B. and William
Moore.
Services were held at Our
Lady of the Mountains Roman
Catholic Church, 1908 Waleska
Hwy. 108, Jasper, at 11 a.m. on
Wednesday, January 7. A lunch
followed the service. Burial will
be at Glasgow Municipal Ceme
tery, 303 Leslie Avenue, Glas
gow, Ky., on Friday, January 9, at
1 p.m. Relatives and friends had
visitation at Cagle Funeral Home
on Tuesday from 5-8. If sending
flowers, the family requests pot
ted plants that will continue to
symbolize Retta’s life. In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions
are welcome at the St. Vincent de
Paul Society of Jasper.
Jan Payne
Mrs. Jan Payne, age 63 of
Jasper, passed away at her resi
dence on Tuesday, December 30,
2014.
She is survived by her son and
daughter-in-law, Jodi and Kim
Payne, Blue Ridge; daughter and
son-in-law, Susie and Steve
Chapman, Jasper; and sister and
brother-in-law, Karen and Jim
Garland, Florida. Six grandchil
dren also survive.
The funeral service was held
at noon on Friday, January 2, at
the Chapel of Cagle Funeral
Home with the Revs. Steven
Chapman, William Faucett and
Charlie Buchanan officiating.
The interment followed at Sun
rise Memorial Gardens. Pallbear
ers were; Jacob and Gene
Chapman, Jonethon Payne, Bog
and Josh Hamby and Lanier
Hogan. Mrs. Payne was preceded
in death by her husband; James
Richard Payne. Cagle Funeral
Home was honored to serve the
Payne family.
Marjie Fowler
Mrs. Marjie Anderson Fowler,
age 69 of Rockwall, Tx., for
merly of Jasper, passed away
January 1, 2015, at Lake Pointe
Hospital, Rowlett, Tx.
Survivors include her mother,
Stella Anderson, Jasper; son and
daughter-in-law, Eddie and Julie
Fowler, of Rockwall; daughter
and son-in-law, Shellie and Steve
Baird, Forney, Tx.; brothers and
sisters-in-law, Eugene and Inga
Anderson and James and Laneve
Anderson, all of Jasper; sisters
and brothers-in-law, Dorothy
Davis, Judy and John Dorsey
and Barbara and Jimmy Black-
well, all of Jasper; and grand
children, Jillian, Kaitlyn and
Christopher Fowler and Bailey
and Chase Baird. Mrs. Fowler
was preceeded in death by her
husband, Ed Fowler; brothers,
J.C. and Glen Anderson;
brother-in-law, J.L. Davis; and
aunt, Judy Haney.
The funeral service was held
at 3 p.m. January 6 at the Chapel

Charlie Gibson
Mr. Charlie J. Gibson, age 55
of Talking Rock, passed away on
the morning of January 3, 2015,
at his residence.
Survivors include his wife.
Sherry Gibson, Talking Rock;
daughter and son-in-law, Katie
and Jason Goforth, Marble Hill;
brother, Ricky Gibson, Nelson;
sister, Nancy Moore, Smyrna;
and grandsons, Brayden and
Colby Goforth.

Sam Quinton
Mr. Kermit Samuel “Sam”
Quinton, age 77 of Crossroads
Church Road, Ellijay, died Fri
day, January 2, 2015.
Mr. Quinton was bom June
29, 1937, in Pickens County, the
son of the late Alden and Martha
Queen Quinton. He was a grad
uate of Pickens High School,
worked as an equipment sales
man, machine operator in the
tool and die business.
Sam was a member of Blaine
Lodge, attended Oakhill Inde
pendent Church where he served
as an Elder and member of the
Board of Directors. He enjoyed
traveling, driving cars for many
different automobile dealers and
flea marketing. He was preceded
in death by parents; sons, Scott
and Ralph Barnes; and brother,
Steve Quinton.
Survivors include his wife,
Juanita Clore Quinton; daughter,
and son-in-law, Miriam and
Adam James, Crosby, Tx.;
grandchildren, Tyler Deaton,
Dustin Newton, Samantha Quin
ton, Madison Deaton, Brittany
James; special friends, Devan
Hedden, Clay McClure; brother,
Jeff Quinton, Blairsville; and sis
ters and brother-in-law, Kathy
and Larry Maxwell, Pensacola,
FL, and Carolyn Bryant, Jasper.
Several nieces and nephews also
survive.

Mike Jackson
Mr. Mike Jackson, age 56 of
Ball Ground, Ga., passed away
Thursday, January 1, 2015, at
Webstar Kennestone Hospital.
He is survived by his ex-wife,
Margie Mathis, Ball Ground;
step-son, Richard Whitmire;
step-daughter, Lisa Eason, Ball
Ground; brother, Curtis Jackson,
Ellijay; sisters, Norma Ray, Free
Home, Nancy Lively, Alpharetta,
and Loretta Chastain, Ellijay; sis
ter-in-law, Becky Jackson,
Williamston, S.C.; and grand
children, Clint and Jesse
Vaughan and Callie Whit Eason.
Several nieces and nephews also
survive. He was preceeded in
death by his parents, L.A. and
Josephine Jackson; and brother,
Keith Jackson. He was a beloved
husband, friend and Poppy.
A memorial service was held
at Arbor Hill Baptist Chinch at 2
p.m. on January 5. Cagle Funeral

Jackson family.
