Tater Patch Players
You will want to be at the
Tater Patch Players Theater this
weekend for the Georgia Debut
of the Jones-Hope-Wooten play,
Farce of Nature. Tater Patch has
staged two shows by the same
playwrights, Dashing Through
the Snow and The Dixie Swim
Club. Both of these shows
packed the house and everyone
left with a smile on their face.
This Southern-fried farce
highlights one day in the life of
the Wilburn family of Mayhew,
Ar. D. Gene Wilburn is the
owner and proprietor of the Reel
’Em Inn, a fishing lodge in the
Ozarks. Lately business is down,
tourists are few and the lone
guest who’s just checked in is an
extremely jittery Carmine
DeLuca from Chicago who is
only there due to a location shift
in the Witness Protection Pro
gram. Doesn’t anybody just want
to fish anymore? Certainly not D.
Gene’s frustrated wife Wanelle,
who’s fed up with their lackluster
romantic life. She’s taken drastic
steps to improve it through hyp
notic suggestion and, for the life
of him, D. Gene can’t understand
why strange things keep happen
ing to him. D
Gene’s feisty sister Maxie has
her own problems, chief among
them proving she is able to re
sume her career in law enforce
ment even near retirement age.
She’s determined to prove her
worth by keeping Carmine
DeLuca alive through the week
end, a task that’s going to prove
to be much harder than she bar
gained for as she keeps losing
What’s that smell and what are you doing dressed like

both her gun and the bullets.
To ramp up the hilarity, the
gangster Carmine’s been dodg
ing for the last five years, one
Sonny Barbosa, is about to walk
through the door, in hot pursuit
of his sexy wife Lola. Lola has
driven hundreds of miles to the
lodge to follow her cute young
employee, D. Gene and
Wanelle’s son Ty. But Lola is
about to meet her match in the
person of Ty’s seemingly inno
cent girlfriend, Jenna, whose pa
tience has reached the breaking
point after months of waiting for
Ty to come home.
In the deliciously funny romp
that ensues, they all hide, lie, dis
guise themselves, cross-dress
and slam doors chasing one an
other, while trying to figure out
the source of an increasingly
awful stench. By then it’s too late
and the lodge is surrounded by
vicious critters and hungry
varmints that have followed the
odor down from the hills. They
suddenly have to all work to
gether to save themselves from
certain doom. And along with the
critters and the odors, Roxanne
arrives. We’ve been expecting
her for the whole play, but don’t
really know why she’s there. Is
she the Avon lady? D.Gene’s
new flame? Is she a new business
partner or is the truth is far more
sinister.
By the delightfully chaotic
climax of this one outrageous
day, love blossoms, truths are re
vealed and the lives of all - fam
ily, guests and gangsters alike -
change in incredible and surpris
ing ways. This side-splittingly

Superior Court Judge Brenda Weaver
Submitted by Darlene Handy
How many judges spend their
time trying to help people get
better and become responsible
citizens? We have one of the
best, Superior Court Judge
Brenda Weaver. She is a judge
with a big heart that spends her
time, in and out of the court
room, helping the citizens of our
community to work through their
problems and obtain the assis
tance they need.
The Jasper Lions Club had
the pleasure of having our
newest member, Judge Brenda
Weaver, speak about Veterans
Court. Judge Weaver takes a
proactive approach to helping
our veterans with substance
abuse, Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder (PTSD), mental illness,
etc. who have been charged with
a criminal offense by offering a
treatment and problem solving
program. In drug court, partici
pants have different back
grounds, but they’re dealing
with common drug addictions.
Veterans have different issues
due to traumatic experiences so
they need to be handled differ
ently. Most veterans readjust
back to civilian life, but others
get into trouble.
The Veterans Court is an al
ternative to prosecution and
with veterans responding to
discipline better than the aver
age citizen the program has a
70% to 80% success rate. With
out this program veterans will
reoffend and remain in the
criminal justice system. Judge
Weaver believes veterans de-
