Loving Well Valentine event Feb. n
By Ralph C. Barker
The North Georgia Pregnancy
Center has set Wednesday
evening, February 11, for its 4th
Annual Loving Well event, a pro
gram developed for middle and
high school students and their
parents. The event is free and
open to any who would like to at
tend.
Loving Well will be held at the
Jasper campus of Chattahoochee
Tech. Doors will open at 6 for
pizza, beverages and dessert.
Program begins at 6:30 and will
dismiss at 8:30.
The purpose of this event is to
help students learn how to under
stand, enjoy and be responsible
for healthy relationships. It is
about healthy relationships. Lov
ing Well will offer time-tested
truths that will help young peo
ple navigate their relationships
during what is a very exciting,
but risky time of life.
Denise Fountain, the coordi
nator of Loving Well, A
Healthy Relationship and Sex
ual Integrity program, will be
the featured speaker at the N.
Ga. Pregnancy Center Valentine
event.
Our speaker this year is
Denise Fountain. She is the coor
dinator of Loving Well, A Healthy
Relationship and Sexual In
tegrity program offered through
the Pregnancy Resource Center
of Carroll, Haralson and Heard
counties.
As a health educator for more
than 30 years, God began to
build a passion in her to share the
message of His truth regarding
sexual purity and integrity. She
is trained in multiple sexual risk
avoidance programs and has
served as the coordinator for a
federal abstinence education
grant.
In addition to her position
with the PRC, Denise also
teaches online for the Cobb Vir
tual Academy. Married for 39
years, Denise and her husband
Monty are parents to two grown
sons and enjoy spending time
with their families and three pre
cious grandchildren.
The Pregnancy Center is well
aware that we live in a sex-ridden
culture. It is one that exploits our
young and promises impossible
benefits for being sexually active
before they are ready. The Cen
ter’s approach is always to love,
educate and support without
judgment. This event is a public
manifestation of this philosophy.
The Pregnancy Center urges
parents and grandparents to en
courage their children and grand
children to attend this one-time
special event in 2015. It will be
time well spent and the outcome
may just change or even save
some lives. There will also be a
question and answer time.
No reservations or tickets are
required; however, to ensure that
enough pizza is available for
those who want to attend, please
RSVP with the Center via phone
or e-mail. The phone number is
706-253-6303 and the email is
info@babyontheway. org. Please
feel free to call Patti Page at the
Center if you have any questions
or concerns.
Farce of Nature's last week
You have one more weekend to see the Tater Patch’s Farce
of Nature. As the picture shows this cast is serious about their
comedy.
By Nan Nawrocki
The very funny and well-at
tended production of Jones
Hope Wooten’s Farce of Na
ture extends one more weekend
at the Tater Patch Players The
ater. There will be shows Feb
ruary 6 and 7 at 7:30 and a 2
p.m. matinee on February 8.
Tickets are still available, but
selling quickly at the troupe’s
website at.taterpatchplayers.org
Seats are $15 for adults and
$14 for seniors and students.
Questions or comments may be
sent to taterpatchplayers@
gmail.com or phone messages
left at 706-253-2800.
Next up, the Tater Patch
Players are introducing some
thing new. Those who have
ever watched the TV show
Whose Line Is It Anyway? have
some idea of what improv is all
about. Join us for an evening
of improvisational fun. Come
to participate or come to watch.
No pressure, no judging, no
lines to learn, just some on
stage improvising with skits
and games. The humor and
topics will be adult-themed.
Our concession stand will be
open. Tickets will be $5 at the
door and the show starts at 7:30
on February 21.
The improv will be led by
Teresa Harris who appeared in
2014s Dashing Through the
Snow and will be in Sylvia,
which opens this April. In
2007, Teresa hosted an audi
ence performed improv night
as a fund raiser for the Pump
house Players in Cartersville.
The performers and audience
enjoyed it so much they refused
to leave when it was over so the
show had to be extended. Audi
ence-performed improv nights
continued on a quarterly basis
for about 2 1/2 years before
Teresa, along with her husband
Mike, founded the Attention
Deficit Players improv troupe
which performed monthly for a
local tavern. Teresa is also an
actress and has appeared in
shows in Canton, Cartersville,
Roswell, and Marietta as well
as Orlando and Charlotte. She
says, “I am so looking forward
to this event. Come on Febru
ary 21 and sign up to perform.
Performers will be chosen at
random for the various improv
skits. If you would prefer to
just watch, that is okay as
well.”
Speaking of Sylvia, this
great play by A.R. Gurney will
open April 10. Director Stan
O’Kelley has assembled a
strong cast and crew to bring
you this funny, but thought-
provoking tale of a street-wise
dog, Sylvia, and the man she
adopts. The man’s wife is not
as enthralled with Sylvia’s ar
rival, nor is her friend and her
therapist. The cast is Marena
Leonard (Sylvia), Alex
Nawrocki (Greg), Ellen Painter
(Kate), Teresa Harris (Phyllis
and Leslie) and John Tinsley
(Tom, and the assistant director
for the production). There will
be many more articles to come
here in the Pickens County
Progress leading up to this sec
ond production of the Tater
Patch Players’ season.
American Legion continues fundraiser
things to Pickens County so far
this year. The Auxiliary Unit is
planning a family fun day for
children on April 18 at Roper
Park, the Legionnaires are plan
ning a fantastic Bluegrass Festi
val during the weekend of May
8-10 and the Legion Riders are
also working on their 2nd Annual
Fallen Heroes ride starting out of
Rocco’s Pub in Jasper on May 9.
We would love the opportu
nity to meet our local veterans at
our Tuesday Social each week
held at Rocco’s Pub in Jasper at
noon each week. You can usually
find many of us there out on the
newly closed in back deck sip
ping iced tea and sharing great
stories from our past present and
the future dreams of our legion
family.

The American Legion Riders
of Post 149 Jasper will be out
doing a boot drive each weekend
during the month of February to
finalize a fundraising project
many have been working on.
Our Legion family along with
the Jasper Merchants Association
who started this fundraising proj
ect are trying to reach a goal of
$10,000 to be given to the City
of Jasper Police Department for
new bullet proof vests. Together,
along with a few anonymous do
nations, we have already raised
nearly $7,000. We are hoping
that with our efforts and your
generosity we can reach this goal
and help keep these Officers a lit
tle safer every day.
These men and women put
their lives on the line each and
every time they walk out the
door trying to keep the commu
nity in which many of us live a
little safer. From the most simple
call such as a routine traffic stop
or a domestic violence call gone
wrong - it may very well be their
last day they ever see their fami
lies again. It is our hope that with
the new equipment we can help
provide them with a higher level
of security and allow them to re
turn home at the end of their day.
Our American Legion is a
very busy and dedicated post to
our veterans and their families as
well as the community. Each en
tity of 149 is bringing great
ALR members of Post 149
welcome all veterans to their
Tuesday social each week held
at Rocco’s Pub.
