PHS receives accreditation

ent of Pickens schools, and Steve
Sewell, principal of Pickens
High, announced that the South
ern Association of Colleges and
Schools Accrediting Commis
sion (SACS) has granted full
member status to Pickens
County High School on Feb. 7,
1995.
Visiting Committee chairman
Dr. Tim Wheeler said, “SACS

Pickens High has an excellent

New Pickens County rescue
vehicle
Rescue Unit operations chief
Gaylon Mathews said the new
vehicle, built specifically for res
cue operations, was equipped
with enough storage compart
ments to hold all the unit’s on-
the-scene rescue equipment and
would transport eight rescue per
sonnel as well. The storage doors
are all accessible from the out
side of the truck, making equip
ment easy to access to rescue
workers.
Mr. Mathews said, “This is
the first real rescue truck the unit
has ever had. We’ve been using
a ‘78 Chevrolet that was con
verted to a rescue vehicle. We’ll
keep the old truck for a back-up,
but the new truck is something
the Rescue Unit needed badly.”

New county road equipment
Abe Mulkey, equipment oper
ator with the county road depart
ment, operates the county’s new
Ingersoll-Rand 10-ton vibratory
roller on a job at the Pickens
County Airport.
The roller was purchased last
week by the county to replace
the old equipment. Commis
sioner Don Mullinax said, “The
new roller replaces a 20-year-old
machine that didn’t do a good
job and cost an unreal amount of
money to keep repaired.”
The machine cost $52,000
plus the trade-in of the old roller.

The Shoe Box is just the beginning
By Wanda Payne
OCC Connect Volunteer
Church Relations Specialist
Operation Christmas Child is
pleased to share with you that
10,440,333 children in over 100
countries have received, or will
soon be receiving, Operation
Christmas Child Shoe Box gifts.
This is because of your caring
and sharing during the 2014 col
lection season. There truly are
not enough ‘thank you’ type
words or phrases to convey the
heartfelt thanks of the many pas
tors, teachers and other church
leaders that will now be equipped
to disciple these children, teach
ing them to live for Jesus and to
boldly share the Good News.
7,991,643 of these Gospel
Opportunity boxes were packed
in the United States with 2,826
coming from Pickens County.
Two airlifts were made to de
liver Shoe Box gifts to more than
120,000 displaced children in
Iraq. We know that Jesus loves
them and that their value is so
great that he shed His blood for
them. They need and deserve to
learn of His great love for them.
But, the Shoe Box is just the
beginning for these children so
we now ask you to join with us
in praying for the ongoing distri
butions and that each Shoe Box
will have an eternal impact on
the lives of the children who re
ceive the boxes and that the
hearts of those they share with
will also be open to the Gospel.
The most common request
heard from children who have re
ceived Shoe Box gifts is “Please
pray for us.” God is using us to
see his redemptive plan fulfilled
so will you please join us in pray
ing for these precious little ones
throughout the year as they grow
in the Lord?
Shoe Boxes and The Greatest
Journey discipleship course are
changing lives, changing com
munities and changing nations.
Through your gifts light is com
ing into the darkest areas of the
world. Thank you!
