Willie Mae Padgett
Mrs. Willie Mae Padgett, age
75 of Marble Hill, passed away
Wednesday, February 11, 2015,
at Piedmont Mountainside Hos
pital.
Mrs. Padgett was a member
of Arbor Hill Baptist Church and
retired as a bus driver for the
Cherokee County Board of Edu
cation. She enjoyed taking care
of everyone.
She was preceded in death by
her husband, Jimmy Padgett; and
son, Steve Padgett. Survivors in
clude her children, Sondrea (Lee)
Noles, Marble Hill, and Penny
Padgett, Woodstock; siblings,
Betty Leach, Norma Lee Day,
Charles Cline, Gene Cline and
David Cline; and grandchildren,
Zack and Jesse Noles, Curtis and
Korisa Padgett, April Lathem,
Jodi Sheffield, Zack Westbrook
and Kerri Woodliff. Seventeen
great-grandchildren and a host of
nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held
at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February
14, at Arbor Hill Baptist Church
with the Revs. Vernie Worley,
Bobby Padgett and Cody
Thomas officiating. Interment
followed in the church cemetery.

“Bud” Cramer, Sr
Mr. Adelbert “Bud” Harold
Cramer, Sr., age 93 of Jasper,
passed away Thursday, February
12, 2015, at his residence.
Mr. Cramer was bom to Adel
bert Blase Cramer and Alvina
Schroeder Cramer on October
25, 1921, in Long Island, N.Y.
Upon graduation from high
school, he proudly served in the
United States Marine Corp.
He is
survived by
his wife,
Etta Buck
Cramer,
Jasper; sons and daughter-in-law,
A1 and Christel Cramer and
Mathew Cramer, all of Jasper;
grandchildren, Rochelle, Ashley
and Jade; and great-grandchil
dren, Kristen and C. J. Several
nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service will be
held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Febru
ary 20, at Georgia National
Cemetery. Arrangements and
services were entrusted to the
staff of Roper Funeral Home &
Crematory of Jasper.

Jettie Gilbert
Jettie Moss Gilbert, 103 years
young of Marietta, Ga., passed
away February 13, 2015, with
her family by her side.
She was born on May 18,
1911 in Ranger, Ga. Jettie had
eight siblings and, as one of the
oldest, helped raise all of the
children. Jettie married the late
Lloyd Gilbert in 1933 and had
six children.
Jettie was an active member
of New Providence Baptist
Church, Marietta, Ga., for most
of her adult life. She was known
for unselfish love for her family
and her beautiful red hair. She in
stilled strength, integrity and
pride, and taught the true mean
ing of family. Her love of cook
ing, gardening, storytelling and
entertaining her family made all
feel welcome in her home.
Survivors include her six chil
dren and spouses, Fred and Sue
Gilbert, Talking Rock, Ga.,
Dorothea Canada and Delle Gib
son, both of Marietta, Ga.,
Roselle and Glenn Simonds of
Powder Springs, Ga., Don and
Patricia Gilbert, White, Ga., and
Glynda Blanton, Marietta, Ga.
Jettie had nine grandchildren,
twenty-one great grandchildren,
and one great-great-grandchild;
several nieces and nephews; and
sister-in-law, Rae Moss, Jasper,
Ga.
The funeral service was held
at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February
18, in the Chapel of Mayes
Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in
Marietta with the Rev. Charles
Whitaker officiating. Interment
followed at Georgia Memorial
Park.
JoyBoeke
Joy Weller Boeke of Big
Canoe, Ga., died February 11,
2015, at the age of 85 after a
short illness.
She was the daughter of Frank
H. and Mary W. Weller of
Nashville, Tn. She was preceded
in death by her husband, Eugene
H. Boeke, Jr., in 2012; and sur
vived and adored by two
nephews and four nieces, Charles
Stagg Weller, Jr., Frank Helven-
ston Weller II, Mary Lou Detty
O’Shea, Kimberly Weller Detty
Saunders DuBose, Elinore Eliz
abeth Boeke and Diana Irene
Boeke; in addition to 10 great-
neices and nephews and one
great-great-nephew.
She was born in Nashville,
Tn., and grew up in Atlanta.
After graduating from Florida
State University, she married Eu
gene Boeke, Jr. The couple lived
mostly in the Atlanta area until
they retired to Big Canoe, where
they lived for most of their re
maining 20 years. Though they
had no children of their own,
their nephews and nieces are
grateful for the long and close re
lationships they maintained with
Aunt Joy and Uncle Gene, and
well as for the profound influ
ence they had in their lives.
Her hard work and support of
her husband’s many endeavors,
especially his gardening expert
ise with prize-winning Dahlias
and “green beans and fresh
tomatoes” will always be fondly
recalled and appreciated. Ms.
Boeke is remembered particu
larly for her striking beauty, re
markable graciousness and sense
of humor in all circumstances, as
well as for her many charitable
activities and contributions. Most
recently, she was an active sup
porter and participant in the
scholarship program for Pickens
and Dawson County graduates
run by Big Canoe Chapel.
A memorial service was held
in the Chapel at Big Canoe on
Sunday, February 15, at 1:30
p.m. with the Revs. Len Walker,
Jr. and V. Lamar Helms officiat
ing. In lieu of flowers, the family
asks that donations be made to
the the Big Canoe Chapel Schol
arship Program.
Jackie Payne
Mrs. Jackie Payne, age 86 of
the Ludville Community, passed
away at her residence Friday,
February 13, 2015.
She is survived by family,
Tim and Cathy Butler, Heather
Stanfield, Daniel Butler and Jen
nifer Frady; grandchildren, Kait-
lyn, Deanna and Hope Butler and
Lyla and Evie Frady; and three
step-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held
at 4 p.m. Sunday, February 15, at
the Chapel of Cagle Funeral
Home with the Revs. Billy
Tatum and Jared Raines officiat
ing. Interment followed at
Friendship Baptist Church
Cemetery in Ludville. Donations
can be made to Cagle Funeral
Home to help with the funeral
expenses. Pallbearers were: Roy
Dobbs, Barry and Daniel Butler,
Lee Frady, Mike Mosley and
Rick Little. Cagle Funeral Home
was honored to be of service to
the Payne family.

Angels on Horsebacks’ ongo
ing goal is to provide opportuni
ties for individuals with mental
or physical disabilities while
learning to care for and ride a
horse. We offer therapeutic
horseback riding and other
equine activities which provide
many physical benefits, includ
ing improved strength, flexibil
ity, muscle tone and motor skill
development. Our program also
provides wonderful emotional
benefits to our students which in
clude: a strong sense of belong
ing, independence, self
confidence and happiness.
Our dedicated caring
PATHIntl. certified instructors
are specially trained in adaptive
teaching methods. They are
trained to work with people with
a variety of disabilities to learn
horsemanship skills while expe
riencing the equine environment
at our program. Our instructors
help to build rewarding relation
ships between the student and the
horse. This relationship of trust
and loyalty between student, in
structor and horse helps the stu
dent to realize their self
importance and the student feels
confident to extend these won
derful new attributes into their
personal lives. Angels on Horse
back has changed and enriched
the lives of many including our

dystrophy, cerebral palsy, Down
syndrome, mental retardation,
autism, multiple sclerosis, spina
bifida, emotional disabilities,
brain injuries, attention deficit

Kindness Revolution at Jasper Elementary
Blustery winds, building
snowmen, sledding down slip
pery hills and snowflakes on
your tongue. All exciting winter
experiences for children who
have adequate winter clothing.
For those who do not, these
childhood hallmarks of winter
lose their luster.
Although it is easy to take ad
vantage of simple provisions,
some kind small business owners
had the children laid upon their
hearts and gave out of their
plenty to purchase winter coats
for needy students at Jasper Ele
mentary.

tion - a movement promoting
simple acts of kindness, empathy
and selflessness.
