Happy Ramblers
The February meeting is al
ways one we look forward to be
cause it is Valentine’s time. The
Community Room was looking
like Valentine’s Day with the
placemats with the red hearts and
vases of the red roses (which
were chocolate) and baby’s
breath.
We had a little different pro
gram planned this time and one
thing was the early start of giving
prizes. We started with some fun
things given at 11 and surprises
were given all along through the
meeting at different times. We
gave our reports of sickness
among our friends and neighbors
and sent out cards. Dianne is our
sunshine chairman and does a
great job of getting out cards.
We had fun with the begin
ning of our lunch when the group
was told to look at the bottom of
their plates before filling them
because some of them had
money taped to the underside!
We had chicken, ham, roast, po
tatoes, carrots, peas, green beans,
okra, sweet potatoes, broccoli,
com, mac & cheese, salad and
about 10 different desserts (more
veggies also) and everything was
delicious!
After lunch we played and old
timey games, one called Disease
and Remedy. It was so much fun
and was fun thinking about the
old time words for the diseases
and their remedies. One thing
was how diarrhea was called
“back door trots;” only old folks
would have any idea why folks
would called it that. But the out
house was usually reached by
going out the back door and with
the problem you would travel
faster than a slow walk.
We didn’t play Bingo but
gave grab bags, creating much
fun and laughter. The roll was
answered with a funny story and
I think we all left with enough
funny things to think about for
several days.
Remember, “laughter is one
of the best medicines.” Laugh
long and hard and laugh often!

Farland from the Pickens Sheriff’s office. Pre-K classes at Hill City Elementary
