Sadie Cornett
wins Scholarship
to Ga. Southern
By Suzy Price
Intern reporter
PHS Student Sadie Cornett, a
proud member of the Beta Club,
Youth Leadership, Reading Bowl
Club, and a yearbook editor, is
now a recipient of a $10,000+
scholarship to Georgia Southern
University.
After applying in August, she
was invited to go to the Southern
Scholars Showcase in December
to compete with 75 other stu
dents for scholarship money. She
recently received the long antic
ipated letter, presenting her with
an award of more than $10,000
which will completely pay for
her room and board expenses,
with extra money left over.
“I've worked very hard for so
many years to get to where I am
today and I'm very excited to get
started in my college career at
Georgia Southern University,”
Cornett said.
She will attend GSU as a po
litical science major, ultimately
planning to attend graduate
school in law. Her intent is to
work at a private law firm, or
“maybe even open my own
someday,” she says, “I want to
work in law because that's some
thing I've always been interested
in, ever since I was a kid.”
Despite her many college op
tions as a well-accomplished stu
dent, she says she chose Georgia
Southern because “of how small-
scale the school feels. I've al
ready met my [future] professors
and even had dinner with them,
and it doesn't hurt that it's only an
hour and a half from the beach.”
