Eagle Scouts land at Eagle’s Rest
Once an Eagle, always an Eagle - Eagle Scouts were invited to a re-dedication ceremony at Eagle’s Rest
Park for the Winter Solstice celebration. Many scouts wore sashes filled with colorful merit badges that rep
resent hundreds of hours they spent working to gain the honorable title. Here, Eagles are pictured with up
coming scouts in the Boy Scouts of America organization.

High atop Mt. Oglethorpe
at Eagle’s Rest Park on
Wednesday, Dec. 21st, Boy
Scouts who have received the
organization’s highest rank
gathered for a re-dedication
ceremony and to be honored
for their achievement.
The ceremony was part of
a Winter Solstice celebration
that also featured music from
Bob Rnysz and Bill Pound.
Boy Scout Troup 20
Scoutmaster Jeff Dodson
began with a list of notable
traits of Eagle Scouts -
they’re more likely to be
charitable, they’re more
likely to succeed - and said
receiving the title is an ac
complishment that, unlike
others achieved in youth, fol
lows an Eagle for life.
Only four to six percent of
scouts achieve the rank, “be
cause it’s a lot of work,”
Dobson said. “Once and
Eagle, always an Eagle.”
Eagle Scouts were asked
to state their name and the
year and place they received
their Eagle Scout rank. Dates
ranged from the 1950s to just
a few years ago. In a touching
display of respect, and to of
ficially re-dedicate the Ea
gles, members of the
audience handed the high-
ranking scouts eagle feathers.
The Winter Solstice cele
bration is an annual event at
Eagle’s Rest Park, which
opened to the public just a
few years ago. The event has
always been held on the day
of the solstice, but in the fu
ture will be held on a close
weekend day so more mem
bers of the public can attend.

Rest Park, which features
hiking trails and four viewing
decks, visit
