Mt. Zion to observe International
Day of Prayer Sunday
Partnering with congregations from
around the globe, Mt. Zion Baptist Church
will be observing the International Day of
Prayer for the Persecuted this Lord's Day in
our 11 a.m. worship service. Countless mil
lions in scores of nations pay a high price for
embracing the Gospel, enduring persecution
ranging from harassment to torture and even
death. Paying the ultimate price, more Jesus
followers have been killed for their faith in
the past century than in all of the preceding
centuries of Christianity combined.
During the pandemic, in some regions of
the world Christians are denied health care
and basic resources; there are cases where
they have actually been blamed for the
"curse" of COVID-19. The Scriptures com
mand us to remember all those who suffer
and are in bondage for their commitment to
Christ.
The
DaffodilD Project
Also this Sunday, at 3 p.m., a number
of Mt. Zion families and children will
gather to plant a memorial garden in
honor of children killed in the Holocaust.
The Daffodil Project is a worldwide effort
to plant 1.5 million daffodil bulbs

The congregation of Mountain Light Uni
tarian Universalist Church believes that it is
our moral obligation to protect public health
and the most vulnerable people in our
beloved community; therefore, we have post
poned all large gatherings until we feel that
the threats of the pandemic have passed. In
the interim, we will be live streaming our
Sunday services. For information about our
future services and our 7 Unitarian Univer
salist Principles, please visit mluuc.org.
On Sunday, November 11, we welcome
Bruce Wood, Colonel (Retired), U.S.
Army. His sermon will be “Veterans Learn
Lessons About Personal Responsibility That
We Can All Learn and Apply.” Summary:
From day one of basic training in all
branches of service, the trainers instill in the
trainees the values of taking personal respon
sibility and holding ourselves accountable for
the results we produce, whether we intended
those results or not. The question is: To what
extent do we train service members to exem
plify discipline and commitment to those val
ues? The answer is: even unto risk of death.
Mountain Light UUC, 2502 Tails Creek
Road (GA-282 West), in Ellijay, welcomes

identifications. Our worship service begins

Mark 10 : 49 - 51, So
Jesus stood still and com
manded him to be called.
Then they called the blind
man, saying to him, "Be
of good cheer. Rise, He is
calling you." And throw
ing aside his garment, he
rose and came to Jesus.
So Jesus answered and
said to him, "What do
you want Me to do for
you?" The blind man said
to Him, "Rabboni, that I
may receive my sight." -

Booker T. Washington remarked incisively in the
book Up From Slavery that "Those who are happiest
are those who do the most for others." It is a
wonderful fact of life and of human nature that we
are designed to get pleasure from giving to others.
The flip side of this is that we are usually at our
lowest and most anxious when we are focused only
on our own selfish interests. There is no end to the
ways that we can give of ourselves. Kind words and
good deeds should always start at home and go with
us into our schools, workplaces and of course into
the marketplace. Good deeds can be done
domestically or abroad, and we need not limit our
good works to helping our fellow humans, but can
also be kind and giving to all of God's creation. Pain
and suffering are not uniquely human capacities;
our animal brethren share this capacity too, and we
might even think of the earth as something that
can suffer under the weight of our burden. So we
should give of ourselves generously whenever we
can. We will reap great benefits in the form of a
much happier mind and spirit and we will be
storing up treasures in heaven.
- Christopher Simon
Remember this:
Whoever sows sparingly will
also reap sparingly, and
whoever sows generously
will also reap generously.
