Dragons haul in big region win
After being out for two
weeks in quarantine, the
Pickens Dragons hosted the
Ridgeland Panthers for their
second region contest of the
2020 season.
Ridgeland came into the
game with one region victory
under their belt and with a lot
of confidence after weather
ing a brutal non-region
schedule. However, the
Dragons came out firing on
all cylinders and looked like
a team that was ready to get
back to action.
The Dragons took the ball
to start the game, and started
their opening drive from the
30- yard line. Pickens drove
the ball 70 yards on six plays
to jump out to 7-0 lead. On
the final play of the drive,
Jarod Whitmore took the ball
up the middle for a 10-yard
score. Peyton Johnson con
nected on the successful
extra-point attempt for Pick
ens. The early success of the
Pickens offense seemed to
rattle Ridgeland, as they
failed to advance the ball past
midfield on their first offen-

November 8th:
On this day in 1997, Larry
Rothschild was hired as the
first manager of the expan
sion Tampa Bay Devil Rays,
with whom he lasted three
frill seasons before being re
leased in 2001. Rothschild
compiled an overall record of
205-294 in what was the only
managerial role of his career.
After Tampa, he took coach
ing jobs with the Chicago
Cubs and New York Yankees
and now serves as an assis
tant for the San Diego
Padres. Rothschild also won
a pair of World Series rings
during previous stints with
the Cincinnati Reds (1990)
and Florida Marlins (1997).
November 9th:
On this day in 2011, bas
ketball hall of famer, Ed
Macauley, passed away at the
age of 83. Macauley spent his
10 NBA seasons as a center
and power forward for the St.
Louis Bombers, Boston
Celtics and St. Louis Hawks.
During that time, "Easy Ed"
registered 11,234 points,
4,324 rebounds and 2,079 as
sists. His credentials included
seven All-Star appearances,
four All-NBA selections, the
1951 All-Star MVP award
and a championship ring with
the Hawks in 1958.
Macauley was also the player
that was traded for Bill Rus
sell, Boston's first round pick,
second overall, in 1956. He

Braves
Roster
Moves
(Part 3)
Over the past few
weeks, we have re
viewed the various parts
of the current Atlanta
Braves roster, so finally,
it is time to look at the
financial breakdown of
the 2021 roster as it
stands now and deter
mined the cost.
Then, let the guessti
mates begin concerning
the actual budget that
ownership will allocate
for players and specula
tion about free agent tar
gets.
Here is the list of
contract players and ar
bitration eligible players
with the estimated
salary for the upcoming
season after arbitration
increases.
Committed
salaries:
Freddie Freeman $22.5
million
Will Smith $ 13
Ender Inciarte $8.7
Travis d’Amaud $8
Chris Martin $7
Ronald Acuna Jr. $5
Ozzie Albies $3
Arbitration Eligible
Salaries (estimate):
Max Fried $6.5
Mike Soroka $5.5
Adam Duvall $4.5
Dansby Swanson $4.5
Johan Camargo $2
Luke Jackson $2
Sean Newcomb $2
AJ Minter $1.5
Touki Toussaint $.75
Pre-arbitration Options:
Austin Riley $.50
Christian Pache $.50
Drew Waters $.50
Ian Anderson $.50
William Contreras $.50
Bryse Wilson $.50
Kyle Wright $.50
Huascar Ynoa $.50
Jacob Webb $50
Tyler Matzek $.50
Grant Dayton $.50
There are 27 names
of guys who may or
may not have a spot on
opening day. As consti
tuted, those salaries total
$102.5 million, but what
is the budget maximum?
The team has stayed in
the mid $130 millions
for the past four sea
sons, so the likelihood
that Liberty Media
opens the checkbook
widely continues to be
slim.
The team may part
ways or trade some of
them. Inciarte is the
chief liability in the list.
Atlanta would ab
solutely love to trade
him but his trade value
due to his pitiful offen
sive numbers remains
low and a trade improb
able.
How will the 2021
Braves roster look? I
guess that we shall see
in springtime.
