Staff Reports
Pickens High School stu
dent Macartney Reinhardt
has been selected as one of
five Teen Artist of the Year fi
nalists in the 11th Annual
Georgia Country Awards.
Reinhardt, a 9th grader, will
perform in the teen showcase
at the awards on November
13th in Macon, Ga.
The Georgia Country
Awards honors the best in
country music in Georgia.
Organizers call it the ‘CMAs’
of Georgia, with categories of
Best Male Artist, Female
Artist, Duo, Group or Band,
Traditional Artist, and Teen
Artist of the Year.
“Singing has always been
a huge part of my life since
an early age,” Reinhardt said.
“I come from a musical fam
ily, so I’ve always been ex
posed to music and always
loved it. As a baby, I would
fall asleep at night listening
to the Grateful Dead and The
Beatles. I started singing as a
toddler and knew that I
wanted to be a singer from
the time I was five years
old.”
Reinhardt will release her
first EP “Shadows” later this
year.
“I would say of all my
songs, my favorite one is
‘Shadows,’ she said. “I wrote
this song during a really dif
ficult time in my life. It was
written when my grand
mother was battling cancer
and she passed away. This
song talks about trying to
find the positive in a really
terrible, dark situation, and to
‘Look up at the sun, and not
back at my shadows.’”
Reinhardt was also a com
petitor in Georgia Has Talent
in Canton, Ga. earlier this
year.
The Georgia Country
Awards show will be held at
the Crazy Bull in Macon,
Ga., November 13 from 7
p.m. to 10 p.m.
All artist categories except
Teen Artists are fan-voted on.
The Georgia Country Award
panel evaluates all artists and
awards points based on how
often they play, what venues
have they played at, their
stage presence, their website,
social media, how well they
promote themselves and

and many other areas. The
panel consists of individuals
that have a broad experience
in country music throughout
Georgia.
The Teen Artist of the
Year finalists are Macartney
Reinhardt, Leah Belle Faser,

Beautiful Fall
As I was sitting on the
porch, a strong breeze blew
in the trees. What a beautiful
sight. The bright colors of the
leaves, the musical sound as
they danced across the drive
way. What lovely colors
come to the leaves at this
time of the year. It is amazing
to watch the colors slowly
coming to the leaves of the
trees. We have spent many
Sunday afternoons riding
through the mountains look
ing at the leaves. We also did
fun things with the children
at school; seeing how the dif
ferent shapes and color of
each was, learning to identify
the trees, tracing the leaves
and coloring them and many
other fun things we did with
the leaves in the fall of the
year.
I loved raking and burning
leaves in the fall. I would
rake huge piles of leaves onto
a tarp and pour them out over
the bank to go back to nature.
The thing I loved most was
burning them. I loved the
way they would smolder and
then burst into flames, but
most of all I loved the smell
of the smoke while burning
the leaves. I never let the fire
get very big until I covered
them with more leaves. Tony
and I would rake together
and I would bum them in the
middle of the driveway. Tony
would start at one end and
me at the other. We did lots of
talking and laughing. How I
enjoyed working and talking
with him. So many pleasant
things we did together in the
fall.
Isn’t fall a beautiful sea
son? And I haven’t even
mentioned picking apples.
Going to the orchard and
picking apples, making fried
pies and using the apple
peeler that cuts and slices the
apple at one time then driz
zling caramel over them.
David Solomon had lots of
fun events over at the creek.
David, Sue and I worked to
gether making fried pies for
these events. One did the
dough, one filling them and
usually I fried them in a big
electric skillet. We used Nel
lie’s recipe but they never
were as good as Nellie’s.
