Crafters can provide unique holiday gifts
By Heather Giambra
From short sleeves to
jackets, most were bundled
for the morning’s chill that
slowly lifted to a decent day.
Tents rippled in the breeze
and leaves tumbled while
racing across the ground.
The market was full and
bustling with activity while
music played from the park
across the street.
Crafters made their tents
colorful with the orange and
golds of fall and the reds and
greens of Christmas. Cathy
Raines of Possum Trot Farms
has been busy making
wreaths for fall, Christmas
and GA Bulldogs. Surely
there is a fan or two who
might want to decorate for
the football season?
Tina Valentine, new ven

and other crafts for your
home. Or are they elves?

Plus, many other wonderful

4-H continues offering great programs
Submitted By

Pickens 4-H
Pickens County 4-H held
another county council meet
ing on Monday the 9th. We
had an awesome turnout.
There were so many activ
ities that the younger 4-H’ers
could not get to it all by the
time it was over.
Molly Hooker talked
about where our food comes
from (farm to table) and
Sherlyn Paredes followed up
on Molly’s lesson with a
matching/memory game.
Then came math and science
lessons, but the kids did not
realize it because it was dis
guised as play.
Dylan Lo taught a STEM
activity, while Micah Newton
talked about looking for pat
terns to solve Rubik’s cubes.
But the real focus of the
night surrounded the theme
“Caring for our Community”.
Ryan Johnson and Sophia
Scott helped the cloverleaf 4-
H’ers as they made orna
ments which will be used to
decorate the tree at the
CARES food bank.
4-H’ers also assembled
health and hygiene bags for
shut ins, made thank you
notes and packages for our
essential workers, and made
get well cards for people in
the hospital.
There are great things
going on with Pickens
County 4-H despite Covid. If
you would like to keep up-to-
date with what’s going on
with our program check out
the Facebook page: Georgia
4-H Pickens County. If you
would like to get your child
involved in this program,
contact the extension office
to get more information at
706-253-8840. Our next
planned event is a project
work day where we focus on
doing activities in their proj
ect area (for 7th-12th grade).
Our next activity for
cloverleafs (Grades 4-6) will
be a virtual county competi
tion to prepare for the District
Project Achievement (DPA)
competition
