The Fellowship Presbyte
rian Youth Group received a
wonderful gift, a Christmas
surprise.
But wait, I’m getting
ahead of myself. It all started
back in March before the
“you know what” (pan
demic). With the guidance of
one of our leaders, Linda
Head, our kids embarked on
a new mission - Care Pack
ages for deployed Military,
the ones in harm’s way. We
wanted to go big, so we knew
we needed the help of our
congregation. So, we
wrapped a huge box in camo
and challenged everyone to
fill it to the brim. Only, it sat
empty for months until
church started up again in
June. We reminded the con
gregation of our project and
this time they went to work
and filled the box to over
flowing.
Packing commenced and
by the middle of October 16
boxes filled with candy, ra
zors, magazines, tooth
brushes, foot powder, food
and so much more flew to
Afghanistan.
And that’s where we
thought the story ended. But
that’s where this story really
begins. In November we re
ceived a package from a
major in the US Army. It was
filled with a handwritten let
ter, a traditionally triangular
folded flag, a certificate, and
a picture of that very same
flag that had flown over their
headquarters building in
Kabul.
Our youth group, now
called Student Unity Min
istry to include our college
student, is small but mighty.
We can’t wait to see how
God will use us next.

“Be it known the accompanying American Flag was
flown in honor of the Fellowship Presbyterian Church
Youth Group, Jasper, GA. This flag flew over U.S. and
Coalition Forces in Kabul, Afghanistan, on 28 October
2020, in support of U.S. Operation Freedom’s Sentinel and
NATO Operation Resolute Support. Flown in the face of
the enemy, illuminated in the dark by the light of justice,
and bearing witness to the removal of terroristforces threat
ening the freedom of the United States of America. ”
