Dean’s Honor Roll

Eliza Kathleen Noe, of
Jasper, was recently named to
the University of Missis
sippi's Fall 2020 Honor Roll
lists.
Noe was named to the
Dean's Honor Roll, which is
reserved for students who
earn a semester GPA of 3.50-
3.74.
In order to be eligible for
honor roll designation, a stu
dent must have completed at
least 12 graded hours for the
semester and may not be on
academic probation during
the semester.

Nelson meeting rescheduled
The City of Nelson’s January Council Meeting was sched
uled for Jan. 4, 2021 but due to the upcoming election on Jan.
5, 2021 we will be rescheduling our meeting for Jan. 11,
2021.
Thrift Store holiday schedule
The Community Thrift Store will be closed Christmas and
Christmas Eve and New Years Day.
Warren makes Academic
Achievement List at GSW
Heath Warren, a resident
of Jasper, made the Fall 2020
Academic Achievement List
at Georgia Southwestern
State University and was
among 632 students recog
nized for scholastic achieve
ment.
To be eligible for the Aca
demic Achievement List, a
student must previously earn
at least 12 credit hours at
GSW, be enrolled in 3 to 11
hours of courses, and earn a
3.5 or higher GPA.

Joint city and county Merry Christmas
Officials from the city of
Jasper and Pickens County
gathered Friday to jointly
wish the community a Merry
Christmas.
Organized by Jasper
Mayor Steve Lawrence, the
group, all wearing masks,
from both governments meet
briefly to offer holiday
wishes for the community.
Mayor Lawrence said he
wanted people to see that
they are all working together
and excited to move into
2021.
The mayor said all elected
officials in both Jasper and
Pickens County were invited,
but some couldn’t attend the
Friday lunch time gathering
due to hectic holiday sched
ules.

Dean’s Lists at ABAC
Georgia College degrees
Students who achieved
academic excellence in their
course work during the fall
semester were recently rec
ognized at Abraham Baldwin
Agricultural College. ABAC
cites its top academic stu
dents each semester on the
President’s Honor List, the
Dean’s Honor List, and the
Distinguished Achievement
List.
The President’s Honor
List is the highest academic
honor possible for ABAC
students. ABAC President
David Bridges said each stu
dent on the list attained an
“A” in every subject, result
ing in a perfect 4.0 grade
point average. The students
had to carry a minimum of 12
hours of academic work.

and Vice President for Aca
demic Affairs, said the stu
dents who qualified for the
Dean’s Honor List attained a
minimum grade point aver
age of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and
carried at least 12 hours of
academic work. The Distin
guished Achievement List is
composed of students who
complete between six and 11
hours of academic work with
a grade point average of 3.5
or higher. The purpose of this
list is to recognize excellence
and scholastic achievement
among part-time students.

Five-Ingredient
Peppermint Bark
8 ounces high-quality semisweet chocolate,
broken into pieces
2 tsp. canola oil, divided
1/2 tsp. peppermint extract, divided
8 ounces high-quality white chocolate, broken
into pieces
25 peppermint candies, crushed
Lightly grease a 9x9 inch pan and line with
waxed paper, smoothing out wrinkles; set
aside.
Place the semisweet chocolate and 1 tea
spoon of the canola oil in the top of a double
boiler over just barely simmering water, stirring
frequently and scraping down the sides with a
rubber spatula to avoid scorching. When the
chocolate is melted, stir in 1/4 teaspoon of the
peppermint extract.
Pour the melted chocolate into the prepared
pan, and spread evenly over the bottom of the
pan. Sprinkle half of the crushed peppermints
over the chocolate layer. Refrigerate until com
pletely hardened, about 1 hour.
Place the white chocolate and the remain
ing 1 teaspoon canola oil in the top of a double
boiler over just barely simmering water, stirring
frequently and scraping down the sides with a
rubber spatula to avoid scorching. When the
chocolate is melted, stir in the remaining 1/4
teaspoon peppermint extract.
Pour the white chocolate directly over the
semisweet chocolate layer; spread evenly.
Sprinkle the remaining crushed candy over the
top and gently press in. Refrigerate until com
pletely hardened. Remove from pan; break into
small pieces to serve.
