greater number of kids and
the volunteers outside of the
Sheriff’s Office could enjoy
the benefits of the event as
well.
“We think during these
times it is important to recog
nize all of our public safety
personnel for all of the hard
work they do for our commu
nity,” Chief Jeff Hall said.
Public safety personnel
who volunteered for the
event included the Georgia
State Patrol, Department of
Natural Resources, Pickens
Fire, Jasper Fire, and the
Georgia Bureau of Investiga
tions.
“I couldn’t be more thank
ful and humbled by the in
credible people of the
community that I have the
privilege to serve; thank
you,” Sheriff Craig said.

The Shop with the Sheriff
program completes its fourth
and final night of the year on
Monday, Dec. 21, with public
safety personnel having the
opportunity to shop for
Christmas gifts with over 160
kids.
In a difficult year created
by COVID-19 obstacles, the
program run by the Pickens
Sheriff’s Office and funded
by the Pickens Sheriff’s
Foundation went from a re
mote possibility to a reality
within weeks due to commit
ted volunteers, local busi
nesses, and supporting
individuals in the commu
nity. Due to the Sheriff’s
JeepFest being cancelled this
year, the monetary resources
available for the event were
far below what was needed.
“It was incredible to see
citizens of the community
step up to make this event
possible simply because they
felt it was the right thing to
do,” Pickens Sheriff Donnie
Craig said. “At the beginning
of December, the funds just
weren’t there.”
Adam and Trina Richards
of A&T Towing helped raise
over $25,000 as well as many
other donations resulting in
over $30,000 put towards
children in need within the
community.
“In a year where every
thing was going wrong, we
couldn’t let this go wrong
too,” according to Adam
Richards, the program’s
largest fundraiser. “We had to
make this happen for these
kids.”
After three nights filled to
max capacity starting De
cember 15, the Sheriff’s Of
fice decided to add an
additional day the following
week to include more kids.
In addition, Sheriff Craig
invited other public safety
“heroes” to be a part of the
event as well, a new adopted

garden centers, and in the Ex

volunteer by designing and
installing community land
