Georgia State Park Passes and Travel Guide
help you explore more in 2021
Plan outdoor
adventures for the en
tire year
One silver lining from 2020 has
been discovering the joy of outdoor
adventures. Parks all across the
country welcomed record numbers
of visitors looking for fresh air,
peaceful scenery and heart-pump
ing exercise. The beginning of a
new year is the perfect time to start
daydreaming about future get
aways. The newly published ‘‘2021
Guide to Georgia State Parks &
Historic Sites” is a helpful resource
for planning spring break, romantic
retreats and summer vacations. The
booklet is filled with tips on the best
hiking trails, fishing spots, pet
travel, golf courses, cabins and
campsites, as well as many new
photos shared by park users.
Frequent visitors may also want
to purchase new 2021 passes. A $50
Annual ParkPass provides free
parking at more than 40 destina
tions, including Fort Yargo, Tallulah
Gorge and Providence Canyon. The
separate Historic Site Pass covers
admission fees at 15 sites, including
Etowah Indian Mounds, Dahlonega
Gold Museum and Fort King
George. The Historic Site Pass is
$25 for students and $50 for fami
lies.
“One advantage of having an an
nual ParkPass or Historic Site Pass
is that it encourages people to ex
plore parks and historic sites
they’ve never been to before,” said
Georgia State Parks Director Jeff
Cown. “Your parking and admis
sion fees are already covered for the
whole year, and you may even find
a new favorite campground, historic
site museum or hiking trail.”
The 2021 Travel Guide is avail
able free in park offices or can be
viewed on GaStateParks.org.
Passes may be purchased online, by
calling 770-389-7286 or in park of
fices as well.
Is it safe to donate blood during the pandemic?
Donating blood is a selfless act that
saves lives. Blood donors may rec
ognize the vital role they play in pa
tient care, but many may wonder if
it's safe to donate blood during the
pandemic. According to the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention,
it is safe for anyone who is well to
donate blood. That even goes for
people who are social distancing
due to COVID-19. The CDC has
recommended various safety meas
ures to ensure the safety of donors
and donation center volunteers and
staff members. Such measures in
clude spacing donor chairs at least
six feet apart and encouraging
donors to make donation appoint
ments ahead of time. Appointments
can ensure donors are not spending
more time at the donation center
than is absolutely necessary, reduc
ing the likelihood that they have
contact with someone who may
have COVID-19 but not know it. In
addition, the Red Cross notes it has
instituted additional safety proto
cols, such as laundering blankets
used by donors after each use and
requiring all donors and donation
center staff to wear face coverings
or masks during the donation
process.
