Two out of every three
abused and neglected chil
dren are waiting for a Court
Appointed Special Advocate
(CASA) volunteer to be by
their side. CASA volunteers
are regular people — stay-at-
home moms, retirees, teach
ers, businesspeople. They
don’t need to be lawyers or
social workers. They just
need to be willing to speak up
for children in need.
CASA volunteers are
often the one constant in a
child’s life while he or she is
in the foster care system.
Your gift of time as a volun
teer is one of the most valu
able ways you can impact the
lives of our children, and all
you have to do is be yourself.
Will you help us to change a
child’s story?
You must at least be 21
years of age, able to pass an
extensive background
screening and successfully
complete 30 hours of training
and 10 hours of courtroom
observation.
The next child advocate
training session for Gilmer,
Fannin and Pickens counties
begins February 19. If you
are interested in learning
more about becoming a
CASA volunteer and the re

serving as the voice of a

Thrift Store
needs volunteers
for planned
reopening

ing February 2 after a long
closure due to COVID. Un
fortunately, with a volunteer
force seriously depleted, they

unteers. “If you have some
free time and would like to be
a part of helping the charities
in this county please consider
volunteering,” the leaders at
the 20-year-old establishment
ask.
They could use people
with as little as four hours to
spare.
You’ll be blessed to be
part of something that has
given millions of dollars back
to the Pickens community.
For more information call
