Thrift Store still struggling with need of volunteers
Managers of the Commu
nity Thrift Store on Samari
tan Drive said they continue
to struggle with their volun
teer pool.
The latest setback has
caused them to temporarily
stop home pickups, which
had only just resumed fol
lowing COVID shutdowns.
Terry Bishop of the Thrift
Store said it may be a couple
of weeks before they have
volunteers to make home
pickups.
Bishop said they would
not have loader/unloaders in
the store during that time ei
ther. The store offers a line of
furniture and larger items, but
for the next several weeks,
customers will have to load
anything they buy and unload
donations.
Bishop characterized the
need as “dire.” He said they
are doing the best they can to
get operations back to normal
but seem to constantly strug
gle with having enough vol
unteers to operate. They are
also searching for more cash
register clerks and a social
media sales person.
Bishop said Saturday is
when they really need people
to help. He said any amount
of time a person could volun
teer is desperately needed.
For more information,
contact Bishop at 404-983-
2220 or Manager Gordon
Norman at 706-299-1041.
For those not familiar
with the local institution, the
Thrift Store has been around
for two decades, operates
with all volunteers and do
nates 100 percent of their
profits back to local non
profits, providing millions
over the years in grants.
The non-profit is open for
donations Tuesday thru Sat
urday 9 a.m, until 1 p.m.
They will temporarily not be
taking donations on Mon
days.
Store hours for shoppers
are Tuesday thru Saturday 10
a.m. until 1 p.m.
