Linda Waters
Linda Ford Waters was
bom in Evansville, Indiana
on September 12, 1953 and
spent her youth in Christian
County, Kentucky. She
earned her Bachelor's and
Master's Degrees in the Sci
ence of Home Economics
from the University of Ken
tucky, where she was also a
member of Delta Delta Delta
Sorority.
Linda was passionate
about her lifelong career in
school nutrition. In 2014 she
was named the Outstanding
School Nutrition Director in
the State of Georgia. Most re
cently Linda was Director of
School Nutrition for Gilmer
County Schools in Ellijay,
Georgia.
Her leisure time passions
were Kentucky basketball,
preparing home cooked
meals for family and friends,
her vibrant flower landscap
ing at her Big Canoe home
and caring for her loving ca
nine companion, Bailey.
Linda passed away on
Wednesday, March 24, 2021
at her home. She is survived
by Randy, her husband of 40
years, and her daughter,
Whitney. Also surviving are
her siblings, Donna Kranz of
Cadiz, Kentucky and Debbie
Rambo of Waco, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, dona

be made to the Pickens
County Humane Society, Big
Canoe Animal Rescue or the
American Heart Association.
A private memorial serv
ice is being planned.

Lamar
Merriman
C. Lamar Merriman, 88,
of Big Canoe passed away
Wednesday, March 24, 2021
at Piedmont Mountainside
Hospital. He was born June
25, 1932 to Archie and Mar
ion Merriman in Atlanta,
Georgia.
Lamar is survived by his
wife of 67 years, Barbara
Merriman of Big Canoe;
daughters and sons-in-law,
Robyn and Bob Cherrie of
Woodstock, Babby and Paul
Norsworthy of Alpharetta;
grandchildren, Evan Nor
sworthy, Alan Norsworthy,
Leigh Welles, and Chris
Welles.
Beloved husband, father
and grandfather (Poppie),
Lamar was bom and raised in
Atlanta. He was co-founder
and president of Expand-0
Distribution Warehousing
Systems and Executive
Bonded Warehouses. He also
invested in commercial real
estate. Lamar was a Georgia
Bulldogs fan. He enjoyed
playing golf and spending
time in Siesta Key, Florida
and Beaver Creek, Colorado.
For the last 30 years, Lamar
and Barbara have lived in
Big Canoe. Lamar was a
member of Mt. Carmel
Christian Church for over 50

Charles
Chapman
Veteran
Charles Linson Chapman,
85, of Jasper, passed away
Friday. March 26, 2021 at his
home. He proudly served in
the US Army. In 1976 he was
elected Magistrate Judge in
Pickens County and served
until 1992. He served as a
deacon at the First Baptist
Church in Jasper and was a
devoted and active member
of the Lions Club for over 65
years.
Charles was well known
as a funeral director. He
served as a funeral director
for 60 years. He and his par
ents, J. G. and Florence
Rabun Chapman operated
Chapman Funeral Home in
Jasper until 2001. He also
served as deputy coroner in
Pickens County for many
years.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, J. G. and Flo
rence Rabun Chapman and
his brother, Oscar Rabun
Chapman.
Charles is survived by his
wife of almost 63 years, Peg
gie Chapman of Jasper;
daughter and son in law,
Leslie and Mark Miller of
Jasper; and son, Clint Chap
man of Jasper. Several
cousins, nieces and nephews
also survive.
Funeral services were
held Sunday, March 28, 2021
at First Baptist Church of
Jasper at 2 p.m. with Rev
erend Preston Jones and Rev
erend Greg Pope officiating.
Interment followed in the
Jasper City Cemetery.
The family ask in lieu of
flowers that memorial contri
butions be made to either the
Jasper First Baptist Church or
the Jasper Lions Club.
Those serving as pallbear
ers are Blake Gooch, Chuck
Payne, Ken Austin, Moss
Fountain, Danny Ryder,
Glenn Rasco, Vince Evans,
Ray Ferrell, Paul Lindsey,
and Gary Burgess. Members
of the Lions Club will serve
as honorary pallbearers.

Tyler Lacy
Mr. Tyler Thomas Lacy,
29, of Acworth, passed away
on Friday March 26th, 2021
at Hamilton Medical Center.
Mr. Lacy was bom in Ful
ton County on November 1st,
1991 to the late Robert
Thomas Lacy Jr. and Tammy
Lynn Wright Lacy. Mr. Lacy
was a member of Welcome
Valley Baptist Church and
was employed in the con
struction industry.
Survivors include his
mother, Tammy Lynn Lacy
of Acworth; two sisters, Jes
sica Skeens and her husband
Tommy of Jasper, and Crys
tal Turney and her husband
Shawn of Jasper; grand
mother, Helen Wright of
Jasper; special friend, Brit
tany Jones; several nieces,
aunts, and uncles.
Funeral services were
held on Monday, March 29th
from the chapel of Bernhardt
Funeral Home with Rev.
William Faucett and Rev.
Ryan Wilson officiating. In
terment was in the Lake For
est Memorial Park in Pickens
County.
Pallbearers included,
Donald Hawkins, Jimmy
Lacy, Hunter Weaver, Jacob
Weaver, Christopher Patter
son, and Fred Corbin.

Carolyn and her husband
Gene lived in several differ
ent cities and states during
the almost 44 years of mar
riage. During that time, she
earned the title of being one
of the best cooks ever. While
raising two children of their
own, and before they had
their precious grandchildren,
they took gentle, loving care
of more than 25 newborn fos
ter babies who were being
placed for adoption.
Carolyn is preceded in
death by her husband, Eu
gene J. Green; parents,
Joseph Robert and Margaret
Ellen Abernathy; brother,
Bubba Abernathy; father-in-
law and mother-in-law,
Jasper Doil and Gertrude
Green of Jasper, GA.
Due to COVID-19 restric

Mr. Edward Lee “Eddie”
Champion, Jr., 61, of Fair-
mount, Georgia, departed this
life Tuesday, March 23, 2021
at Floyd Medical Center.
Eddie was bom August 25,
1959 in Cobb County, Geor
gia.
He was preceded in death
by his mother, Vivian Fuller
Whitley and his father and
step-mother, Edward Lee and
Betty Champion, Sr.
Eddie was a 1977 gradu
ate of Fairmount High
School and was the owner of
KC’s Comer Restaurant in
Fairmount, Georgia, for
many years.
He is survived by his wife,

Daffodil project memorializes children of the Holocaust
The Jasper Peace Garden is now officially part of the Foothills of Remembrance as a pathway to Children's Holocaust Memorial Gardens in north
west Georgia. Jasper joins Ellijay, garden in process, Blue Ridge, Blairsville, Young Harris and Hiawassee with the remembrance gardens as part of
the Worldwide Daffodil Project memorializing 1.5 million children who were murdered in the Holocaust. The 1,000 bulb garden was a joint project
with The Pickens Master Gardeners and The Rotary Club of Jasper.
