Tater Patch Players is
back in full swing with their
upcoming comedy romp A
Funny Little Thing Called
Love by the comedy writing
trio of Jones, Hope, and
Wooten. This show is a com
edy romp that's reminiscent
of shows like Carol Burnett.
The play leads us around the
world, following a romanti
cally enchanting full moon.
This comedy might give
audience members some ro
mantic ideas, but it's guaran
teed to give everyone an
evening of laughs. The play's
first scene is set in a busy San
Francisco TV newsroom
where romance and more put
in a very unexpected appear
ance. Chelsea Walker, Nancy
Loy and Tater Patch new
comer Derek Perry kick off
the laughs. Quickly, we move
on to Dallas. The title of the
second scene is “The Lone
Star Ladies Justice Brigade.”
Alex Nawrocki plays a
wanna-be Romeo who finds
himself with too much ro
mance for one man - even a
Texan. Nancy Loy, Kim Mar
tin, Phyllis Zerkle and Nan
Nawrocki are the Texas
ladies who deliver some rib
tickling “tough love.”
In Act 2, we cross the
pond and under a London
moon, we meet a quiet, re
served Englishman, enjoying
some peace in a small cafe.
He is suddenly confronted
with a very sharing and unso
phisticated young lady from
Oklahoma. And then he
meets her “soon to be ex-fi
ance,” Ferlin, played with
rural style by John Kuehl.
And finally, we end up in
the Big Apple, where ro
mance reaches comic
heights. There's a proposal, a
hilarious comic appearance
by Jan Simpson that has to be
seen and heard to be appreci
ated, a man in his boxers, a
paramedic and another man
who makes a very unex
pected arrival. By the time
the evening is over, you’ll be
trying to find ways to quote
many of the lines of the
show, including this scene's
“She's not dead, she's
French.” All in all, a memo
rable return by your Tater
Patch Players.
This is a family show and
the jokes could probably be
enjoyed by all ages. How
ever, some of the “romance”
is a little on the adult side.
Come enjoy a night out at the
theater with your friends, a
proper intermission with re
freshments, and plentiful
laughs. We are so glad to be
back entertaining you, and
promise you our best.
The show will be per
formed May 7, 8, 9, 14, 15,
16, 21, 22, 23. The Sunday
shows are at 2 p.m. and the
others at 7:30 p.m. Tickets
are available at the box office
or in advance at taterpatch-
players.org/tickets. Adult
tickets are $20, seniors are
$18 and students are $15. As
always, the final dress re
hearsal, May 6 at 7:30 p.m. is
our Share Night. On this
night, people who might not
otherwise be able to afford a
ticket are welcome to watch
this final rehearsal, share
their laughter, and bring a
bag or two of canned goods
or toiletry items that we will
donate to CARES.

Former U.S. Rep. Doug
Collins announced Monday
he will not run for any office
in the 2022 election cycle,
ending speculation over po
tential bids for top statewide
seats.
Collins, who lost an
open-format election for one
of Georgia’s U.S. Senate
seats last fall, said he aims to
play a role in “shaping our
conservative message” to
help Republicans win back
majorities in Congress.
“For those who may
wonder, this is goodbye for
now, but probably not for
ever,” Collins said in an an
nouncement on social media
Monday. “I believe that we,
as conservatives, must be
able to clearly communicate
our values, and I will help
keep that fight going.”
A Baptist pastor and U.S.
Air Force Reserve chaplain
from Gainesville, Collins
joined the Clarkesville-
based law firm Oliver &
Weidner in February after
placing third in the open-
party special election.
Collins waged a fierce
battle for a majority share of
conservative voters in the
special election against Sen.
Kelly Loeffler, who was ap
pointed to hold Isakson’s
seat until the election. Loef
fler then lost to Democrat
Raphael Wamock in the Jan.
5 runoff.
Collins served four terms
from 2013 until 2021 repre
senting Georgia’s 9th Con
gressional District, which
stretches from Gainesville
and Athens northeast to the
South Carolina border (and
includes a portion of Pickens
County). U.S. Rep. Andrew
Clyde of Jackson now I
that seat.
Prior to his Senate cam
paign, Collins served a stint
as ranking Republican on
the House Judiciary Com
mittee, where he gained na
tional attention as one of
then-President Donald
Trump’s most vocal support
ers during Trump’s first im
peachment inquiry in 2019.
Collins was Trump’s pre
ferred pick over Loeffler for
Gov. Brian Kemp’s appoint
ment to the vacant Senate
seat, opening a rift within
Republican ranks between
the president and Georgia’s
governor that continued
through the January runoffs
and amid Trump’s claims of
voter fraud in the 2020 elec
tions that state officials and
federal courts repeatedly re
jected.
