Pickens Bass Fishing wraps
up club season
The Pickens Bass Fishing
Team successfully wrapped
up their club season last
month with their final event
on Lake Nottely.
The season started back
on February 2nd when the
team braved the cold weather
and took to Carters Lake. The
fishing conditions were not
ideal, but the teams still man
aged to land some quality
fish. On the varsity side of
the tournament. Trace Led
better and Tyler Payne came
away with the first win of the
season. On the Jr. Division,

montree brought in the
biggest stringer of the tour

lbs.
On March 14th, the team
headed to Lake Lanier to
compete in the second event
of the year. Both the fishing
and the weather were much
improved in this tournament.
Ledbetter and Payne once
again had the hot stick for
the high schoolers competing
in the tournament and
brought in a nice limit of
fish. Wyatt Richards and
Colby Goforth won the tour

In the final event of the

Slip
Sliding
With a record of 12-16, the
Braves started this season
in underwhelming or per
haps disappointing fash
ion. I will take a step
farther and call it what it
is; it’s a train wreck. The
bats remain anemic, and
the pitching is nothing
short of embarrassing. Un
less this club rights their
ship rapidly, the season is
slip sliding away.
Where should the
blame fall?
Pick a spot because
there is undoubtedly
plenty of places to point.
I expressed concern
about the offense at the
close of spring training be
cause nobody distin
guished themselves in
preseason. Not a soul...
Ronald Acuna Jr. open
the season with an other
worldly streak but cooled
after an abdominal muscle
injury. Of late, Austin
Riley’s average is within a
couple hits of surpassing
Acuna for the team lead.
However, the rest of the
starting lineup is hardly
hitting their weight.
The foremost concerns
remain. What’s wrong
with Freddie Freeman
(.216), Marcell Ozuna
(.204) and Dansby Swan
son (.202)?
As a team, Atlanta ranks
12th in batting average
among the 30 MLB clubs
at .238, therefore surpris
ingly, the offense as a
whole is not as bad as al
most two/thirds of the
league. In fact, the Braves
are 1 Oth in runs scored and
second in homemns.
The pitching has fallen
to the worst in baseball
with a 5.06 ERA through
Monday’s action. That
number is 30th or dead last
among MLB teams. At
lanta pitchers have surren
dered more homers (42)
than any other team in
baseball as well.
Ugly starting perform
ances remain only slightly
worse than the shaky
bullpen. With starting
ERAs in the 5.30s and re
lievers at 4.72, it is no
wonder that it holds the
dubious distinction as the
worse pitching staff in not
just the National League
but all of Major League
Baseball.
When the normally erratic
Luke Jackson has the best
earned run average on
your staff (1.80), this team
is in real trouble!
Last year’s ace Max
Fried is recovering from
injury, but in his three
starts thus far, his 11.45
ERA ranks worst on the
whole team. Will he re
turned to form soon? We
can only hope so.
There’s no indication
when Mike Soroka who
proved to be Atlanta’s best
starter two years ago, will
be ready for action again.
The much talked young
prospects have not as
serted themselves much.
Ian Anderson pitched well
enough. In six starts, he is
2-1 with a 3.27 ERA,
while Kyle Wright has
