ATLANTA - A small busi
ness advocacy group is suing
Major League Baseball for
moving next month’s All-
Star Game out of Georgia.
In a lawsuit filed Monday
in federal court in New York,
Job Creators Network is
seeking either an immediate
return of the game to Traist
Park in Cobb County or the
payment of $100 million in
damages to local and Geor
gia-based small businesses.
Major League Baseball
moved the All-Star Game to
Denver in response to pas
sage of controversial legisla
tion by the General Assembly
last March putting new re
strictions on the voting
process in Georgia.
The law replaces the sig
nature-match verification
process for absentee ballots
with an ID requirement. It

A bear on the back porch,
a bear in the trash, or a bear
destroying a bird feeder are
all relatively minor situations
and almost all could be
avoided by Becoming Bear-
Wise, according to the Geor
gia Department of Natural
Resources’ Wildlife Re
sources Division (WRD).
‘‘Avoiding problems with
bears is usually simple,
though it may not always be
convenient,” says Adam
Hammond, WRD’s state bear
biologist. “One of the six

curing food, garbage, and re
cycling. When bears have

foods, regardless of the
champion for the Class
AAAA 800 meter run. This
outstanding accomplishment
is not, however, this impres
sive young man’s first stellar
showing.
During his tenure as a stu
dent athlete at PHS, he has
been a two-time region cross
country champion, a two-
time region 800-meter and
1600-meter champion, and a
3200-meter region champion.
In addition, he holds the
school record for the 1600-
meter, at 4:17, and the 800-
source or the intent, they will
take advantage of them, and
that often leads to further
problems.”
Why is it such a big deal?
A bear that repeatedly finds
food from garbage cans, bird
feeders, and pet food bowls is
unlikely to leave, and will be
come bolder in its search for
easy food. This leads to po
tential property damage of
homes, garages, vehicles, and
more.
Once bears have learned
bad habits and have come to
rely on people for a “free
meal,” they never change
those behaviors, and this type
of behavior progressively
gets worse with time and ex
perience. If you really care
about bears, please make the
extra effort to ensure that
your home and yard are “un
attractive” to bears - to pro
tect yourself, your family and
pets, and bears.
BearWise is an education
program developed by bear
biologists from each of the 15
state wildlife agencies that
make up the Southeastern
Association of Fish and
Wildlife Agencies
(SEAFWA). The program,
anchored by the website

izen specific, detailed, and

Also a 2021 PHS honor
graduate, Seth is one of only
four incoming freshman dis
tance runners recruited by
UGA, where he will continue
his illustrious career in both
cross country and track.
Given his commitment to
both athletics and academics,
Seth’s future is sure to bode
as favorably for him as his
past achievements.

The black bear is a sym
bol of Georgia’s natural di
versity, the only bear found
in the state and a conserva
tion success story. Though
now considered the most
common bear in North Amer
ica, the species was nearly
eradicated from Georgia in
the 1930s due to unregulated
hunting, illegal harvest - in
cluding the killing of bears as
“vermin,” and large-scale
habitat loss. Sound wildlife
management practices have
restored Georgia’s black
bears to a thriving population
estimated at 4,100 bears
statewide.
Black bears may legally
be taken during the hunting
season, which occurs each
fall in Georgia. However, the
taking of bears during any
other time of the year, or the
taking of bears illegally dur
ing the hunting season is
called poaching. Prevent
poaching of bears by report
ing any illegal activity. Visit

Say It
Ain’t So
The account of a young
fan asking Chicago out
fielder “Shoeless” Joe
Jackson to “Say it ain’t so”
following the news of the
White Sox intentionally
losing the 1919 World Se
ries is the most famous re
port of that phrase.
However, Braves fans
could be asking the same
thing of outfielder Marcell
Ozuna after his arrest on
charges of domestic vio
lence on Saturday.
The 30-year-old slug
ger also fractured two fin
gers while sliding into
third base on Tuesday of
last week. Both incidents
put his future in baseball
very much in doubt.
The hand injury could
take at least six weeks to
heal, but the arrest could
cost Ozuna months of sus
pension time and threatens
to end his career com
pletely.
He was released from
jail after posting $20,000
bond Monday on charges
of aggravated assault by
strangulation and battery
against his wife in Sandy
Springs. In court, attor
neys said the couple was
in the process of divorce.
Genesis Ozuna, his wife
was arrested on a domestic
violence charge in Miami
The court case and its
legal outcome is only one
problem. Ozuna could
face a long suspension by
Major League Baseball,
which plans to review the
matter under the joint do
mestic violence policy in
place between MLB and
the players' union. The
Braves organization will
likely address the situation
too and then, there is the
public reaction as well.
In the past, MLB sus
pensions for domestic vio
lence ranged from 15
games to an entire season
(162 games). You might
recall former Brave Hector
Olivera who was arrested
for similar charges in April
2016. He was eventually
suspended for 82 games
by MLB. Ultimately, At
lanta traded him to San
Diego and Olivera was re
leased by the Padres in
August 2016. The former
outfielder retired shortly
afterwards.
Reports indicate that
the Braves are unlikely to
get Ozuna’s four year, $65
million contract void al
though the franchise may
try. If he is suspended, he
would forfeit all of his
salary for the duration of
that suspension though.
