UNG confers degrees for
spring 2021 graduates
For the Spring 2021 semester, the University of North
Georgia awarded more than 1,600 degrees and certificates to
graduates. More than 1,100 participated in the spring 2021
commencement ceremonies May 8-9 at the Convocation
Center on UNG's Dahlonega Campus. The ceremonies re
sembled a mix of traditional elements and socially distant
protocols.

Fullmer awarded degree from University of Alabama
Caitlyn Fullmer of Jasper has received a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Ala
bama. UA awarded some 5,860 degrees during its spring commencement ceremonies April
30-May 2.
The University of Alabama, part of The University of Alabama System, is the state's flag
ship university.
Warren makes President's List at Georgia Southwestern State
Heath Warren, of Jasper, made the Spring 2021 President's List at Georgia Southwestern
State University and was among 612 students recognized for scholastic achievement.
To be eligible for the President's List, a student must earn a semester GPA of 4.0 and take
a minimum of 12 credit hours.
Moranos named a Piedmont Dean's Scholar
Connor Moranos of Jasper has been named a Piedmont University Dean's Scholar for
the Spring 2021 semester. Students named as a Dean's Scholar achieve a perfect 4.0 GPA.

of Tate, who were named to the Dean's List for the Spring 2021 semester. Dean's List hon-
orees achieve a 3.50-3.99 GPA.

Cook named to President’s and Dean’s Lists at Young Harris
Young Harris College President Drew L. Van Horn, Ph.D., is pleased to announce that
Shelby Cook of Talking Rock has been named to the College’s Dean’s List for the spring
2021 semester. Students who achieve a 3.5 grade point average or better are eligible to be
named to the Dean’s List.

GriefShare continues Sun
days from 2-4 p.m. weekly
through August 8th, meeting
at King of Kings Lutheran
Church. GriefShare is a
video seminar featuring some
of the nation’s foremost ex
perts on grief recovery top
ics. Each seminar is
self-contained, so jumping in
at any time is allowed.

Molly Hooker was re
cently named a district win
ner in the 2021 Georgia Farm
Bureau (GFB) Middle
School Essay Contest.
Hooker was an eighth-
grade home-schooled student
when she wrote her winning
essay earlier this year. She is
the daughter of Clint and
Julie Hooker of Jasper.
She won a $100 prize for
being the top winner from
Georgia Farm Bureau’s 1st
District, which includes 15
counties in Northwest Geor
gia. Hooker’s essay can be

The contest was open to
all public, private and home-
schooled sixth through eighth
graders in Georgia. The 45-
county Farm Bureaus that
held local contests submitted
their top winners to GFB
from which 10 district win
ners and a state winner were
chosen. Essays were judged
on clarity of thought and
writing skill.
Students were encouraged
to explore GFB’s Certified
Farm Market and Farm Pass
port program in writing their
essays. In their essays, stu
dents were asked to address
the contest question: How do
GFB Certified Farm Markets
and agritourism benefit farm
ers and consumers?
“Georgia Farm Bureau’s
Middle School Essay Contest
is where research and creativ
ity meet. We provide a topic,
the students do the research,
and then they help us tell the
story of agriculture,” said
GFB Women’s Leadership
Committee Chairman
Heather Cabe. “Tackling a
writing prompt outside of as
signed classroom curriculum
is no small task. It makes me
extremely excited to see stu
dents going the extra mile for
agriculture.”

reau coordinated the contest.

Strawberry Banana
Overnight Oats
1 medium ripe banana, mashed
1 1/4 cups almond milk (or milk
of choice)
1/2 cup nonfat vanilla or plain
greek yogurt (dairy free yogurt
also works)
1 cup gluten free rolled oats
1 tablespoon chia seeds
10 strawberries, diced
2 tablespoons almond butter
Add banana, almond milk and
vanilla greek yogurt to a medium
bowl and stir until well combined
and creamy. Stir in oats, chia
seeds and strawberries. Divide
evenly into two mason jars or
plastic containers, then cover and
place in fridge overnight.
Once ready to serve, top each
overnight oat serving with 1 ta
blespoon of almond butter and a
few extra banana slices and/or
strawberries, if desired. If you
like crunch, add chia seeds.
