WyldLife goes to Southwind
Sports
Fanatic
Last week, students
from PJHS boarded a bus
bound for Ockalawaha,
FL. You might ask ...
what is in that town? Just
the best place ever -
Southwind - an amazing
camp made for junior high
kids in mind.
While at camp, kids
from Pickens County
were able to slide down an
awesome water slide,
challenge themselves on a
giant swing, paddle board,
laugh at hilarious skit
characters, eat yummy
food, compete in various
events, have a foam party,
... the list is endless. Most
of all, they were able to
listen to camp speaker,
Terri Wilson, share with
them just how much Jesus
loves them.
After a week of camp
ing, we want to make sure
each child feels seen, feels
heard, feels loved. With
the unpredictable year we
have just had, it was so re
freshing to have kids be
kids - laugh, play, and cre
ate a in a lifetime memory.

June 6-June 12
June 6th:
On this day in 1976, the Boston Celtics claimed their
lucky 13th NBA championship following a six-game vic
tory over the Phoenix Suns. The Celts closed out the se
ries two nights after prevailing in triple overtime. There
was less drama in Game six as Boston won, 87-80, be
hind Charlie Scott’s game-high 25 points. Dave Cowens
had 21 points and 17 boards while Paul Silas contributed
10 points with 13 rebounds. Jo Jo White averaged 21.7
points, 4.3 boards and 5.8 assists and was named the
Most Valuable Player of the series.
June 7th:
On this day in 1978, the Washington Bullets captured
their only NBA title in franchise history by outlasting the
Seattle SuperSonics in seven games. The Bullets
clinched the championship with a 105-99 victory and six
different Washington players scored in double-digits.
Bob Dandridge and Charles Johnson, who came off the
bench, registered 19 points apiece. Meanwhile, Tom
Henderson and finals MVP, Wes Unseld, each had 15.
Unseld averaged nine points, 11.7 rebounds and 3.9 as
sists for the series.
June 8th:
On this day in 1965, Arizona State outfielder, Rick
Monday, was selected number one overall by the Kansas

Changing
Expectations
Just two weeks ago, I
wrote about the possibil
ity of the Hawks actually
winning a playoff series.
At the time, that idea
sounded like lofty expec
tations for a franchise
which seemed fortunate
just to make the postsea
son for the first time in
several years, but now,
anything short of a con
ference final appearance
would disappoint a reju
venated fan base.
Atlanta basically dis
mantled the New York
Knicks four games to one
and defeated them by re
spectable margins like
105-94 in game three,
113-96 in game four and
103-89 in the decisive
game five. That upset of
heavily favored New York
propelled the upstart
Hawks into the national
spotlight and demon
strated the depth and skill
of their young roster.
In fact, 22 year old
point guard Trae Young
who was snubbed during
All-Star selection has
transformed himself into
one of the NBA’s super-
stars by averaging 30
points and 10 assists in his
first playoff series.
But wait; there’s more.
The second round of
playoff action tipped off
on Sunday afternoon in
Philadelphia, and the
Hawks continued their
playoff run with yet an
other unlikely road vic
tory over the even heavier
favored and top seeded
76ers who finished the
regular season at 49-23 or
eight games ahead of fifth
place Atlanta (41-31). The
Hawks triumphed 128-
124 which puts this squad
in the same position as
during the series with the
Knicks.
With the roster healthy
for the first time all sea
son, Atlanta is playing its
best basketball at ab
solutely the ideal time.
We’ve all witnessed lower
seeded teams in every
sport win championships
recently because they
peaked in the post season.
A championship is still
a huge stretch though.
Let us recall that we
just wanted this bunch to
play a respectable series
against New York only a
couple of weeks ago.
Then, just a respectable
showing against Philly
would have sufficed fan
wishes only last week.
However, Atlanta owns a
clear advantage already.
This ever sliding scale
of expectations now real
istically says that Atlanta
can and should win this
series as well.
